Pistol lanyard. Worth having or not????
« on: August 15, 2010, 12:44:29 PM »
I'm trying to decide weather or not to buy a pistol lanyard. Some friends of mine have them and always use them, but with a good holster I don't see much use besides getting snagged on stuff. Anyone have thoughts on this?

In all honesty having a pistol is only for show. In the 5 years i've been playing i've never been forced to use a side arm. Onto the lanyard. If your pistol has a spot for it get one and use it. I know a few guys that utilize them and they are mostly happy with it. Sometimes it can get stuck on tree limbs and stuff though.

If you're worried about your holster not being secure then you should probably use one.

Unlike Jeremy there, I have used a sidearm on many occasions. Not just in games where if your main gun is hit you have to sling it and move to a sidearm, but also because I use a high fps gun with a MED, inside of which I use a sidearm. They're also nice at places like sasco where you might use a long gun as a primary, but also want a short gun when you get into a CQB area without carrying a whole other gun.

Anyways, I use a serpa, so I never worry about my pistol falling out. For the people that use passive retention systems or universal velcro types of holsters, a pistol lanyard is great for keeping you from losing the gun.

2.00$ worth of 550 cord and you can make yourself a pistol lanyard, and have 550 left over. I have that cord securing my m9, the 550 itself even adds a certain look to your gear that I myself particularly enjoy.

Cheaper, looks great,  and then you have a bunch of 550 left over to play with.

I have a lanyard for my pistol and it helps. I hardly use my pistol in the field but I like to use it in a CQB area. For the lanyards they can get caught on a branch or something but it rarely happens to me. I did drop my pistol and not realize it one time and if I didn't have the lanyard I would have lost it. So the lanyard has helped me out quite a lot. And I also know that I won't lose it incase I do drop it.

The lanyard is more of a reinsurance, you most likely will notice if you loose your pistol, but it makes you feel like you wont. A mag saver, or rubber and velcro piece that holds the mag in place is also a good thing to invest in because my friends and I have dropped plenty of pistol mags on the ground.

having a lanyard on my pistol saved me from having to search the field for a lost pistol like 8 or 9 times
it does get in the way some times though, getting cought up on trees and brush

It is  worth having, over losing an expensive pistol. if it just a basic springer don't worry about it.

I've been playing airsoft for three years and have ran out of ammo and had to use my pistol several times. Most of which I was able to gain a kill or two before going completely dry.
