JB Weld? Or do it the right way
« on: June 10, 2011, 10:37:48 PM »
The current project is trying to add a rail system to my A&K M60VN.

I can either drill two holes and thread them into the upper receiver, and then screw the rails onto it...

... Or use JB-Weld and epoxy the damn thing on. Done right, both should look exactly the same.
JB-Weld is very strong... I just don't know how strong. It's also a cheaper and easier method to apply.

What do you guys think?

I think that two machine screws and a tap, and you would break even on the price of a tube of JB weld.

It's also going to work better in the long run with screws imo... eventually, JB weld WILL break, especially if it's bonded improperly, cured poorly, or used on poor quality metal or improperly prepped metals.

Here's what I did.

Drilled holes, bought screws and spacers, threaded the badboy.

Total cost, $2.12
