Shoot house thoughts.
« on: July 24, 2004, 07:29:05 PM »
I was thinking about a building a portable and modular shoot house. It would be consructed out of a 4x8' sheet of plywood or other sheet wood. Each sheet would be framed with 2x4" studs (3 per sheet). Then each section would be attached thru holes drlled through each stud to another section by large bolts, washers, and nuts. Corner peices would be 8' long 4x4" posts, with simillar holes, this would allow for assemble of right angle corners. Appropriate sections would have doors or windows cut into them. The sections would be portable in 4x8' sections, they would probably require a trailer for transport (rental or other) to a game site.

A rough (I stress ROUGH) estimate of a 12x12' room/structrue would cost 200.00 to 250.00 dollars. I think you would need at least 3 structures for this to be a useable idea. So this is roughly 750.00 dollars. I say 3 structers because they could be combined to create a 432 square foot structure (some one check my math).

My thoughts on this idea are these.

1. How to lower the cost of each structure?

Do contractors get a better price on lumber,       do we have any contractors in AA? (Facts not speculation please).

How many sheets of 4x8' material (any no need to be pretty) do members have that they don't need.

How to pay for the things if they are deemed worth doing. (Hey I don't have 750.. dollars I work for a living).

2. Storage when not in use?

3. Transport costs for each use? Trailer/truck rental fee's etc..

These are my thoughts on the issue, please post constructive criticisms and answers. No mindless posts about how neat or bad of an idea it is, just honest and thoughtfull discussion. Thank you-Robert.
