I played it last night.
I'll preface this by saying that I absolutely despise Counterstrike. I played it from Beta 1 up until about Beta 6. Then the game got taken over by bunnyhoppers and 12 year olds.

CS:Source is awesome.  It's the exact same game as CS based on the HL1 engine (here's a fun fact, HL1 is based on the Q2 engine.), but the gameplay feels more balanced and everything has been kicked up to next generation technology.  The HL2 engine feels much more immersive. There is debris on the ground, the environments are really vivid and realistic, smoke is killer, the sound is awesome.  At one point a tire went rolling by and I was awestruck by the physics of the game. It's as close to perfect physics as anything I've seen. The particle effects are awesome as well.  I was hunkered down behind a corner and one of the guys on my team started blasting past it, but a lot of rounds were hitting a few feet in front of me on the wall.  I was really impressed by the dust and concrete spray coming off the bullet hits.

I'm tempted to buy Condition Zero just to be able to play this little slice of HL2 more.

I'm glad to hear that fan of the older Counter-Strike versions likes CS:Source [:)]

If you decide to buy Condition Zero for the beta, I would suggest getting a CD Key off of ebay. I got mine for around $10 (I bought it for the CS:S Beta [:P]) You just have to find someone with very high feedback that sells CD Keys frequently.

EDIT: Just a reminder, the beta preloads on the 16th and is released on the 18th.

My first impressions were very similar to Ninja's.  It does look beautiful, physics engine is incredible, and the sound/smoke/flash was made 10x better.  As for the gameplay, i feel it is too random now.  Anyone else play it yet? I desire more input from people of an airsoft community.

I might have to go hit up ebay to see if i can find a cd-key or just go get a copy from valve

The specialists is a pretty cool game. Anyone know how long it will take natural selection to go to source?

Depends if it even goes to HL2.  Each mod will depend on the mod team.

Natural Selection is supposedly going to HL2. It was posted on their site sometime ago. Day of Defeat will be cool on the source engine...i would look so sexy...i'd marry it. But only california would they allow that, id imagine...

Counter-Strike: Source
« Reply #11 on: August 09, 2004, 08:33:07 PM »
The Counter-Strike: Source Beta will be released and open for play testing at lan centers registered with the Cyber Cafe program wednesday afternoon pacific standard time.  Where I work, Beyond Gaming (Located on northeast corner of 35th Ave and Union Hills) will be servin' it up along with that day being Free computer day, which we do every wednesday.  You come in, sign up on the list and get free 2 hour blocks.  NOTE:  we have only 6 computers, as we are a card shop/cyber cafe.

Aside from this, any CZ owners going to be playing the CS:S beta?
