It uses a shorter bolt carrier and the recoil spring and rod are located in the tube above the handguard.  Here's a partial pic of what the bolt carrier looks like.

Huh, how reliable are those system?  Is it legal to build one?  Just the sbr tax right?

A Real one, no, that is illegal(maybe im horribly wrong). I have no clue how reliable a real one is, but id imagine the same as any other AR, all it is a mini-ar. Now airsoft i should also be just as reliable(unless you don't take care of it)
