Suggestion: Old Posts

The area with posts for each month could use a clean up.  We probably don't need the old posts for games that happened last June anymore and it'll save on the clutter on the boards.

While we're at it, it may be worth kind of deactivating posts more than say 3 months old. People can post but it'd require admin approval to actually reactivate the thread and post. Might be more work than it's worth, but it would keep down on ressurects and clutter from them.

I see no problem with adding to an old post.  Ressurections are not a problem if those who know better don't reply also.  If someone resurrects an old post with nothing to add, ignore it and it won't stay active.  The problem arises when some hero decides to say "Hey, man.  This is an old post!"  Then we get 5 or so others saying the same thing, all for nothing.

but then theres those posts from over 2 years ago that get reactivated (maybe you were the one who caught it...? it was earlier today)  that really made me laugh seeing such an old post.

This is the reason why 99% of the time I just reply to topics on the new posts page..Keeps my ass from getting reemed for posting on stuff thats old. If its a legitimate ressurection like something where you want to discuss the CA m24 and theres a thread with some info and past discussions about it(theres ALOT of those on here) then sure, why not bring it back? If you bring back a post with 0 replies from 2001...Now thats a different story..But don't rape the guy cause of it. Just ask the admin to lock it in a PM. Most of the time within a few hrs it will be locked anyways.

Old posts in the non-game sections will remain for the reasons that AZSARGE pointed out.  They serve as an archive, and as people have things to contribute to them, they are more than welcome to add to them, even if they are 3 years old.  Occasionally we'll get the new user who pulls up an old topic and answers a question from 3 years ago - but those are the exception, rather than the rule.

Reaver, the monthly game forums have a pruning process I set up that runs on them.  It will delete any topic that hasn't been posted to in 365 days.  I may change it to 300 days to clear out the clutter 2 months prior to the month being "re-used".

Eh, it was just an idea. I definatly see the reasons behind not removing them, just thought that giving the admins a bit more work would keep those useless resurrects from coming up and catching others with worthless posts when it shows up on the new posts section. Besides I'm all about making admins work harder  :twisted:

Theres no such thing as a worthless post.

If you don't like the topic, DON'T POST IN IT and it will die.  

Sometimes getting the last word is more trouble than it's worth.

   That would work.  I'm just thinking it would help clear the clutter from the posting sections for what events are being held each month.  Thanks Paco.
