Fueled by Quicksand convoy to the AO
« on: October 30, 2005, 07:55:04 PM »
I dont know how many but I know there are some...
Military experience in doing a convoy...Okay, it doesn't have to be that well executed, but a few things to make help everyone out next time.
I'd like to say...I too am guilty of passing the dirt bike, I didnt realize he was going to the game and I had no clue where the AO was myself.

Whoever was in the silver explorer, made sure he was the last vehicle...as we came out of the gas station he waved me in front of him.
I thought maybe he knew how to get to the AO?  If he did, that's good have the lead and rear vehicles be very certain of how to get there, but then the last vehicle should also know who is going, not saying it was their fault for Chip? not making it...But some planning of movement before hand...i.e. a number count(of how many vehicles) or in that case..."don't forget the dirt bike" would be good too.

Strip map from the meeting place to the AO, those don't have to be fancy or take hardly any time to make, just bring a couple or 5 to the meeting and give them off to a couple vehicles(Also, making sure those 5 vehicles are not the in a clump of the first vehicles to take off from the gas station)
Don't want to use printer paper?  Make it in paint or powerpaint and email it to me, if I'm going I'll print them.  Otherwise, brief verbal directions prior to leaving the meeting so if you lose sight of a car in front of you you have a good idea how to get where everyone else is going.

If you get lost, pull over...Try to make this recognized by everyone, and if the rear vehicle exists make sure everyone knows who that is so when it passes you you get back on the road behind them.

It doesn't take ,much to get everyone where we're all going...But in this case it was simply a follow the leader and that doesn't always work

I'm not slamming anyone with this in any way, so I hope not to see a lot of argumentative and negative replies...until they say game on, we're all on the same team...so let's try and help one another a little more.

I agree 100%! I felt really bad when Chip wasn’t there when we stopped. :( He’s my bud and if any of you haven’t played with him, he’s a great sport! I think we’ve learned our lesson from this, and I know I will not let it happen again.

Guys, I'm not gonna flog a dead horse here.  I have several motorcycles and this one that I rode up Saturday is the slowest.

I did talk with a few players at the Conoco, but next time I'll make sure to ask someone to wait up for me or whatever it takes.

I was able to go the speed limit, and really, even if I'd rode up in anything else, well, I still drive the speed limit.

Gant, I'll probably be ridin' the thing at the next game at Four Peaks. I know where the turnoff to Four Peaks is, but not the actual AO. I might leave a bit early and wait at the turnoff.

Again, thanks for addressing the concern fellows. It's all good.
Chip

Well, we find ourselves in a state of re-learning the obvious. Last year we always made a point of the practices mentioned by Ranger Bob. Somehow we've gotten away from them and, well, we had a little object lesson. I think part of the problem is we haven't been going to many brand new AO's lately so we've been pretty comfortable that we could find our collective way. Good to re-institute sound convoy tactics.
