My laptop has a fingerprint reader built in.  Many of the new ones coming out lately have them.  Works great, next thing will be retnal scanners!

The jump drives will erase the data if tried so many times.  I'm sure there is a way around them, but still for the price of the drive and the security it provides, its well worth the money.

Blanking the data if messed with to many times is kind of a good idea so long as it's secure enough to not accidentally happen.
You can find hook ups for your computer, seen a keyboard with it built in
and also a USB plugged thumb print reader  (total security if you just yank the thing out of the computer and lock it up somewhere else...well..not total)

I think technology is fantastic and things like this being so openly available to the public consumer is great, and will only lead to newer and better things....but also newer and worse problems.

I have one of these...and I did a custom job on my old ass IBM thinkpad just a few days ago when someone GAVE me a USB thumbprint reader.. I created a small usb hub circuit and split a line running towards the front of the comp, and dremeled out a small square where i superglue'd the guts of the reader to the edges around it. It looks legit as f*ck and is needed to do anything in windows after i put in my password...

I actually had to bring the damn thing to school today.. To "test" monitors in "StRUT" and some jackass hopped onto it while i was drainin the main vain and tried to get into it using his thumbprint....As soon as i came back it alerted me and showed me a snapshot of them...O yeah, did I mention the new integral 2.1mp webcam? It's awesome..

 :shock: Andy. Remind me to never try and jack your PC...there's probably a sattalite tracking device in there too...

Pics dude, that sounds totally sweet.

I mean, if you have to, just use the webcam you integrated in the mirror, or something. I gotta see how ya did this, I am thinking about doing the same thing with my PB.

I was at Frys Electronics yesterday looking at new laptops, and I didn't see any with that. That's too sick, man. What laptop do you have?

I am pretty sure ben has one of the new thinkpad's..His is SICK to the MAX..we brought it to LC, remember Nate?

I will take a pic tomorrow. Actually...I almost forgot... it has a GPS on the "top" that I was able to fuse to it...and then run the USB connection behind/to the side of the LCD. I just need to find a way to hide the huge directional WIFI antenna sittin in my backseat now... :

Cool, I wouldn't mind getting one if I had some mission critical data to store. Just one question though, are there any safeguards to prevent physical tampering with the device? Like how easy is it to remove the outer casing?

I'll see if I can get some pics of our laptops in the Attack Battalion.  

Wireless networking between aircraft, paperless logbooks and manuals, fingerprint ID, kevlar laptops, and entire mission data on one USB drive.
