Possible SOCOM16 modification?
« on: November 26, 2005, 11:38:15 PM »
I'm currently looking at purchasing the SOCOM 16 from G&G.

One of the first things I wanted to modify was the rear stock assembly.  For those who have purchased and read the latest Combat Tactics you probably saw the McMillan MFS-14 stock they placed on the SOCOM 16.

For those who haven't, here's a picture of what I'm talking about:

I wanted to customize G&G's SOCOM 16 with airsoft parts to attach a pistol grip and an M4 style stock (please note that I do not want to make the stock foldable, just collapsable).  My main concern is the placement of the motor and the body work it would take to make this possible.

So, is this possible?
Who would I have to talk to to get this done?
How much money would this probably take (excluding the airsoft parts that can be purchased from retailers)?

Thanks for taking a look guys.  I hope I can find some answers.

Talk to Gixer. He's the M14 nut around here.

I love the M14 and I'm looking into getting a SOC 16 real soon.

It could be done.

Do you want to replicate that exactly, or just add it's features to your gat?

All I want to do is add a pistol grip and a collapsable stock.  If I could replicate the look of the rear assembly on the MFS stock that would be great but I'm not expecting a full replication.

I'll send a PM to gixser right now.

Why not just wait for the STAR M14, and don't worry about ghetto-riggin' it?

It may be cheaper to customize the SOC though. I am drooling over the STAR M14 but I won't be able to fork over 700+ bucks for it.

(Although, the idea of interchangable mechboxes does sound pretty sweet...)

The main problem is going to be where are you going to place the motor? Right now the motor rides inside the the front side of the stock. The Stars will be much easier to Mod, Not saying it cant be done but your going to drop some cash to pull this one off

The STAR is beautiful, but in my opinion, far too cluttered.  I'm not looking for an AEG that's all rail.

I'm not quite sure which one would be cheaper.  I would assume the STAR because the 16 would require the extra pieces and labor.

Even if this isn't possible, or very difficult, I'm still considering purchasing the SOCOM 16.  Gix, would you be willing to meet up sometime at JT in Phoenix so I could take a look at yours?  If so, I would be greatful.
