Definitely, without question, go with the M24. The VSR 10 is complete crap, especially with what you are willing to spend. Other than that, you could go with a Tanaka M40, even though it is gas, it is a fantastic rifle.

My Tanaka m40a1 after dumping 500$ into it = 1337 Face ownage.

If you're on a budget go with the VSR10, its fine if you buy yourself some Laylax internal upgrades. A friend of mine had one and its upgraded to 500, and from what I hear it still works fine.

If you have $800 to spend on this project I would go with the Maruzen APS series.

They are the top of the line BASRs, and from what I hear they give you great accuracy as well as consistency when upgraded, the two factors you want most in a airsoft sniper rifle.

However, it is pricey, and most likely you will use all of that  $800 on the project, and alot of time making it work the way you want to. In the end however, you wont be sorry.

Remember, FPS isn't everything man.

Okay, sounds like you're putting alot of thought into this. I have heard from multiple, experienced airsofters that the VSR10 is a very decent weapon for the price, and that it can be upgraded well, and still hold up to the internal abuse.

IMO spring rifles, if you can get them functioning at high performance without crapping out, are more reliable than gas guns. However, it's not easy to fine tune a spring rifle. At least not as easy as a gas sniper.
