Don't get a vest with a built in holster. If you ever decide you want to use your pistol, without wanting to wear the vest, you won't be able to(you won't have extra mags, or a place to store the pistol when you don't want to have it in hand. I used a pistol during the prescott game while I helped be an A-gunner on a SAW, so I threw it in my holster while I helped him.)

If you want to get off on a good foot with a nice holster, not a shitty one, get a Safariland 6004 for the model of your choice. Its a semi-expensive piece(probably worth the pistol you will be packin') at roughly $90-$100 for the holster(it is a drop-leg, by the way). But, you'll never buy another holster becuase you'll be in love with this one(unless you buy a different pistol).

IMO...Ian hit the nail on the head. I've used the cheap $25 holster to only loose 2 mags cause the mag release button was accidentally pushed by the holster while running. The holster would flop around on my leg no matter how tight I would make it. I purchased a Safariland 6004 and have never once considered any other holster. It's comfortable and stays in place no matter how hard I run. The hard case protects the gun well and has a hard strap that locks into place to secure the weapon...problems solved. The cost may be steep ($100+) at first but it's well worth the investment if you want to have a drop leg that works the way it should and will last a long time.

Plus.... it looks really really cool.  I love my safariland, I have the drop leg holster and the hip version for my conceal carry.  SLS retention rocks.

you know what you really don't need a vest with a pistol holster, when i had my first vest (a SAAV) it didn't have one and i would just put it in one of the Gerneral Pouches, then i got a cheap leg holsert, which is now for my belt(i'll show you if your wondering what i'm talking about) but it would press the mag release and i would have to stop to pick up mags, it was a ghetto one and it broke (the holster) so i moded it.  so in theroy......get a drop leg!

Cheap leg holsters suck, because they slide around and lose their velcroness (don't know what else to call it) fast. Mabye a 50 dollar one would be comprimise.

I want to know where you are buying $100 or less 6004 holsters, because I need a new source.  That is less than my cost for them from my distributor.  Safariland had a 25% price increase last year, so if the prices haven't gone up yet (due to large inventories at retailers), I would expect to see them rise, soon.

Another alternative is the HSGI drop leg holster.  Secure, removeable flap and doesn't wiggle around.  I've used one for about 4 years.

Tim, Diamondback Tactical sells Safariland 6004s for about 90 bucks for pistols that do not have lights. I think having lights is a few bucks more.

they must have a direct-with-Safariland deal going...which costs a LOT of money. Only way to get them for that low...
