was there a reasonable effort made on their part to inform us about this well before the game started?
Ah, I don’t see any Forest Rangers on all airsoft forums do you? From here on anyone who chooses to play or host games this time of the year in this kind of situations should make the effort to find what info they can. As far as AA games it will be dealt with appropriately. Our desert is a great place we should be respectful and understanding to those protecting it. Some info is here http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/tonto/home.shtml but I know the flyer we got from the forest ranger had additional information that airsoft would fall into the description.

If someone has a link that has better info, please follow up after this.[/quote]

It still makes me wonder why they didn't catch any of our campers the previous day and told them the same thing that they told us on Saturday.

Cause we're sneaky motherfuckers, that's why.

Nah, we didn't get there until very late.

Deferring to Skylar here, I agree, we goofed up -- it should have been considered, the fire danger, I mean. We had little to no problem last year, but this frustration won't come to pass again. Information has been gathered and the proper procedures are in place for next time. We got some good gaming in luckily. Woulda been a whole another story had everyone driven up to be summarily turned away.

Hehe IIRC someone was listening to techno and needed a boost after the music drained their car battery  ;)

Well I'm glad this can all be avoided in the future, I'd be pissed if I had to turn back to Phoenix after making a nearly 100 mile trip.

I think this has been covered very well.  In short I showed her how airsoft works but forgot the ammo.  It did not matter though as the restrictions in a class three fire danger specificly stated no air rifles. She can not change the law, thats not her job, it is to enforce it.  The restrictions also restricted many more activities due to the extreme fire danger, so we were not being picked on in anyway.

Why didnt they see us before?  If it is like me, I have a large area to cover and I would be extremely lucky/unlucky if I actually caught someone stealing crap out of my facilities. Probally the same goes for the forest service, I believe that there is usually like 10,000 acres per ranger or something like that.

Solution "Information has been gathered and the proper procedures are in place for next time."
I'd take it as a good learning experience and how to deal with law enforcement.  Let the organizers know so that they can take care of the issue, it is too hard to try to listen to 8 different people.

Just to add, as of Friday, the Tonto N.F. is also now closed to any "off-road" travel. This might affect getting out to any area that includes a dirt road.. Again, up to the tree-cop's interpretation at the time.

The entire Coconino N.F. is closed to ANYTHING right now, too.

Hope for a good monsoon soaking soon.

SASCO is great. Havent been there in well over a year, and am dying to have another game there.

Last time I took a walk through the smelter foundation, it was with my shotgun getting a covey to flush out the back end of it. There were a couple of other hunting parties there too, and there were even a couple of ATVers. But most of them were well away from the ruin sections, enough to hold a game anyway.

But anyway, it is a good halfway Pheonix/Tucson commute, and with plenty of cqb and outlying structures. I know paintballers still use it, so perhaps having a game there wouldnt be too bad of an idea.

Does anyone know the state of ownership?  I heard the private party who bought it turned it down because they'd of had to relocate the grave yard...or something to that effect.

Another issue is the road leading up to there...it gets very muddy and impassable during monsoon or irrigation run-off periods....

There is a back road to it.

Its a little rougher and it takes almost 45 minutes to get there on it. It starts out at pinal air park rd. and winds around the air park, and eventually meets up with the main sasco rd.

At the very least it might be worth a recon of the road, find the bad spots and see just how bad they are.  Roads get better and worse over time.
