Need some advice on gear please.
« on: July 03, 2006, 06:01:12 PM »
Hi all,

Well, I'm kind of new here. I chose this forum because you guys have the best looking gear (paticularly plate carriers) I've seen.

Basically what I want is to look like one of the Marines currently in Iraq.

After trying to find a Interceptor OTV coyote cover but could not find a high quality one except SDS, but the coyote color is all wrong. So I decided to screw looking for an Interceptor and look at other options.

Basically, I'm trying to identify the plate carriers that many Marines commonly use.

One of them that I found was the TAG Spartan. I heard that you can get one from "Lisa" of TAG. But the price tag is too high, so I decided to screw that. I tried googling the plate carrier but no one else sells it and for cheaper. The google results didn't bring that much results. Is there a secret name for the Spartan under Eagle rather than under TAG?

Sorry for the big image!!

So, are there any other plate carriers that are commonly used by Marines in Iraq besides the Spartan with a good price in coyote color? Replica or Real? (I want real mostly lol)

Thanks!

It depends on what you mean by "good" price. I know that most of the EAGLE gear, like the CIRAS and the like run in the 500 dollar range. Past that, I really have no insight as to what current Marines wear. However, if you are on a budget, the Fast Attack Plate Carrier with Fast Attack Rack from www.diamondbacktactical.com runs less than 200 bucks and is a wicked nice rig.

A moderator on this forum, Raith, has a TAG Spartan style PC that was made by another member of this forum. My entire kit was made by said member and it's bombproof, I use the hell out of it.

I believe he wants something like $50, however, it's in khaki, if that's an issue for you. Shoot him a PM.

Welcome to the board.

Think of this as a temporary solution (its going to be mine)

Modular operation/Duty (M.O.D.) Tactical Body Armor

Likewise I think I've seen WGC Shop with a brown (sort of coyote looking) Guarder IBA replica. I know AEX sells a "tan" Guarder IBA, you could probably alter the color to tone it down to coyote brown.

Thank you for the help and suggestions. I tried to see Raith's Spartan setup in:

http://www.airsoftarizona.com/forumbb/v ... &start=660

But the image is dead. Does anyone have a copy of it? I will try to PM him.

And Vince, who is the person who makes the Spartan on this forums? And is he charging $50 for the plate carrier? Cause that's one hell of a deal.

It is a hell of a deal, but that wasnt a plate carrier. My prices for plate cariers are around $130 or more. The thing I made for Raith was a one off deal that was a super simplified version of the spartan and that is whay it was so cheap. You get what you pay for with my designs.

Ok then I will screw Spartan.

Any other plate carrier names used by USMC in Iraq?

Are you specifically looking for a "plate carrier" or just an armor carrier?  If you are specifically going for a USMC look then you are just going to have to peruse pics of them and figure out what you want. The spartan is one of the most high speed things that I ahve seen those guys wear but Robert (long trang) on the boards who is in the MC right now was sporting a DBT FAPC the last game he attended. Just look for stuff in coyote brown or 498coyote, and go with that.

Thanks,

I think I will just go with a Eagle Plate Carrier w/ Cummerbund (When I get enough cash). I don't care about Marine loadout anymore...

By the way, what are m16 pouches in that this guy is wearing:

(Don't worry, mind the Spartan he's wearing lol)

I thought it was a Tactical Tailor but they don't come in that color. Also are those pouches CB?

Thank you.

He might have purchased them from Diamond Back Tactical out of AZ. They copy alot of stuff already on the market(those, are copies of the TT Mag shingles).

They're probably just Tactical Tailor's tan color.  Get it dirty and it won't matter.

I really like those.  Do they hold 3 or 6?  I can't tell.

Thanks I think I will just get TT's tan.

http://img276.imageshack.us/img276/7382/untitled2ph.jpg

Will it look good if I get a CB vest?

I don't really like Battelab's design because the thing where you pull off to pull the magazine out is rubber and too thick.

And Sean, it only holds 1 magazine. That's what I like about it. It's thin (not those thick buldgy ones, I don't like those) and simple. And it's cheap (I think). I think I will buy like 7 of them (single, not panel). I want my vest to be simple and streamlined look. Like the picture of the guy I just posted (not this post).

Thank you.

EDIT: Well, this website says they sell TT in CB?
