This looks great, I'm betting that it would roll, depending on the investment needed.

The location seems perfect, between Tucson and Phoenix.  The buildings look in decent shape, considering.  The power lines look intact.

I'd donate time to help this happen.

Charlie

If memory serves me correct, this is near Avra Valley, very far from Phoenix, and certainly not in between.  Would be cool for some MOUT training

EDIT: Vince owned me on a *typo*, its kool cause he's a pal!  :D

It isnt really visible, but all that seperates this abandoned area from the rest of the community of Chuichu is a road.

I will be getting in contact with the district rep as soon as possible. I think having airsofters tidy up the place will be quite a gesture. But in due time. There are actually three reps from that district I must convince before I can have an audience with members of the actual community. How long the process will take I do not know. But I will keep everyone posted each step I take.

Part of the reason I looked in this district was due to its location. The community of chuichu is near Casa Grande which is smack dab between phoenix and tucson on I-10. This place is no where near avra valley. I knew it would be convenient for tucson and phoenix players. Its still a drive I know, but the distance is almost the same between each city.

Check out Mapquest, search city:Casa Grande state: AZ zip: 85222

select a regional size map. Chuichu is not named however it is located above the listed communtiy of COCKLEBUR

Some Pragmatic thoughts;

I assume that this is going to be a business venture with the intention of turning a profit.  That being said, I also am assuming that you are going to court paintballers as well as airsofters.  Now I know that airsofters will drive long distances to play at cool locations. will paintballers?  Although out of Metro areas most paintball fields are still close to said Metro areas.  Most notably Sudden Impact in Marana(Tucson) and Southwest Paintball in Suprise(Phoenix) to name 2.

The halfway location could be a boon or a curse.  I know we would drive to play there but would paintballers?  And if not could airsoft only generate the revenue needed to balance the books?

Are you also getting feedback from Paintballers?

Maintenance;  The paintball fields that I have played at seem to require little maintenance, they just let the stuff dry in the sun.  With buildings and CQB stuff the insides of rooms may need hosed off from time to time. that makes me think of drainage, rot, etc.  Just a thought.

Have you contacted any other field owners to see what kinds of numbers are needed to break even?  I don't know how competitive the market is out there, but I know that people reading this forum know some of these owners.

I would like this to happen SO much that I have been runnin crap like this through my head since you first posted.

Be Well,
Charlie

Definately consider this being for both airsoft and paintball.  You could easily double your revenue.  You could also do gun rentals for both sports.

As Charlie said, maintenance wil be an issue.  Airsofters aren't gonna want to play inside buildings where the walls are covered in paint; we're worried about our nice gear getting dirty  ;)   Some sort of way of cleaning out the buildings would be a necessity.

You may also want to talk to the owners of paintball fields in the area, see if you can get advice/info from them.

Yes this project is geared towards profit. I did read a thread some time ago on this site about airsofters hating that their gear gets slimed at paintball fields. My intial thought was to have airsoft and paintball, But now im thinking airsoft exclusively.
The great thing about operating on the rez is that my fixed costs are less and lower than someone operating within city limits. My original field was to be built on my fathers lot, all I would have to pay was an operating fee to the district (100 annual) and insurance costs. But this new area is in a different district. I am not sure of this districts operating fee or if I ll even be able to acquire insurance immediately. On top of the district's fee I will need to cut in the Community as well.
The area is too small and too close to populated areas for paintball. It has been my unfortunate experience that paintballers arent so concerned with their public image as airsofters are. Just my luck I only get punk kids who shoot paintballs at every car that passes by.
In that abandoned area their is one building that is still being used. Its a small multi-purpose building mostly used by senior citizens and community projects. I would hate for that place to get shot up with paintballs.

For paintball the start up costs would be huge. I would need hundreds of yards of netting, multiple bulk co2 tanks, Id say a modest 20 sets of equipment to rent and on top of that knowledgable staff/refs.

Airsoft on the other hand ( and please correct me if Im wrong)....
Well the small community building does have power which could be used to recharge your batteries.
I know you would not intentionaly shoot at passing cars, besides I dont think there is netting made for airsoft.
As for rental airsoft equipment, well there is so much i need to learn from you all. For paintball, I know you can never go wrong with a Tippmann for a rental, but for airsoft, Well i just dont know.
I feel airsofters are pretty self sufficient. In the begining the most I can offer you is a place to charge your batteries, running water, and a place to skirmish without worrying about the locals or the authorities. I volunteer with the local DPS Explorer program and have built up a relationship with one of the local police seargents. Before the field begins I will have a meeting with the police to layout my intentions.

I do agree their should be more hard cover on the field. I know a guy who can get me new oil drums for 10 dollars each (email me if you know where to get some for cheap) I know a place where I can get quality pallets for free. I also wanted to build (out of plyboard) a Bradley and a Black hawk. Maybe a BMP for Opfors sake. As for abandoned vehicles, well their everywhere here just got to find someone who will give them up or sell em for cheap.
NOTE: I wont be back online until probably Wednesday the 12th

For rentals, you could get a few stock TM guns.  They're really reliable and not too expensive.

excuse me for my language but that place is Fuckin awesome....

That would be one of the coolest areas YET!!!!

If it goes through, i wouldnt change a thing, and... I would go out and help you paint over some of the graphiti if you were planning on it or somthing.

Also, are you thinking the normal admission price of $20 that the paintball fields charge? Id be down for that, as it looks worth it to play there!!!!

Lastly, if you dont want to do the painball thing, i Suggest maybe a few TM guns (ak 47s are the most reliable i have heard, but i dont know). Youd need full seal goggles too, maybe some face masks (whats the age limit here, 18?)

Man If airsoft could support this then that would be ideal, a dedicated airsoft field would be great!!  It might even bring in some airsofters from farther away than Arizona.

AZTAC, you may want to get a hold of Mikey (Airsofter1) and get his input, as he is the head guy of AA events.

This project is worth the work.

For convincing, I suggest a petition, and maybe other stuff like short videos of the airsofting community having fun, sharing their enthusiasm and "inspirational" (can't think of a better word) sh*t.

For rentals, Tokyo Marui guns. To me it appears that the most popular are the Colt M4/16 series and AK series, so I would suggest maybe 5 of each for a start, the M4/16s equipped with 8.4v 600mAh batteries and AKs with 7.2v 600mAh batteries (for the sake of full-auto realism, a certain JT employee suggested to me when I bought my AK).

I believe that this ultimately rides on the backs of all Arizona airsofters. Without our support, and without our showing we're a large, friendly community (at least a little friendlier than paintballers), this project might fail. I'm sure all of us would like a field nearby just for airsoft. We should do all we can to help make it real.
