Latitude/Longitude of Four Peaks?
« on: August 01, 2006, 10:37:10 PM »
Hey everyone, I'm trying to find a topo/aerial map of the place where we like to play at four peaks, with the concrete structure and everything.  I found the Four Peaks wilderness, but after I searched around on Google Earth for a while I couldn't find the actual place.  I was wondering if anyone knows the lat/long of where we play (I know it's a stretch, but who knows?), or I think someone pulled up a topo once.  If you can tell me how to find it, that'd be great. Thanks.

sean, i have the TOPO program, I could get a pretty nice map of the area and it can syncronize waypoints with a GPS if you wanted to do that.

That'd be pretty sweet.  I'm gonna try and work out some type of scenario, probably with your help, that involves maps and waypoints and whatnot, even if it's just us and Brian and a few other people.  More fun in big groups though.

That's it alright.  Thanks, I spent probably an hour last night looking.  I was pretty far off, too.  My strategy was to follow Shea until it hit the B Line, then follow that and guess where the turn off was, but it definitely wasn't working.

Hey fella's,

I was wondering if any of you ever played at "The Jungle"?  It's located on the East side of Whitlow Ranch Flood Control Basin. The area is wonderful!  I shot paint out there back during my paintball days.  It's to the East of Queen Valley.  I have not been out there for a couple of months....but you might want to check out the area for future Ops.  There's many canyons to the N, NE, E, SSE of the Flood basin.  Location: 33 17' 59.36"N/111 16' 11.66"W

Just wondering if AA has run any operations in the area?  Make a nice place for desert ops. :D

I just Google Earthed it.  Looks pretty cool, I can see why they call it The Jungle.  About an hour's drive from Scottsdale, so it's better than heading to Tucson.  Let me know if you ever plan a game there.

Roger That.

I don't know if any of the AA Regulars know of the location.  I always check the games and events...never seen anything close to the area...It would make a nice AO for all of us that can't get to Four Peaks, Tucson, etc....

Ask around and see if anyone knows of this location.

I'm going to check with ABLM and with the U.S. Forest Service to see what the lines are in the area.  I know for a fact that the Dam itself is off limits.  Hewitt Dam at one time was under the control of the Army Corps. of Eng.  But then the Forest Service took over and from what I hear....it's currently still under USDA control.  Pinal County and the Federal Government have had disputs over the area as far a shooting etc... Rumor has it that Pinal County Sheriff's have messed with people....but I have never seen it.  I'll get back to this and post it up as soon as I find out what's current on the area.

I've been to "the jungle" twice, (I'm assuming it's the same place) it's a pretty nice place...  Two main things to watch out for is: make sure you don't get lost, and watch out for bees and crazy off roaders...  Almost saw someone wreck their Jeep (right after they almost ran us over) last time I was there.  Never saw any Forest Service or anything though, so you should be ok.  If you do go out there, and happen to see a can of Red Gas, it's mine, and I'd like it back. ;)  (Don't ask)
