Private contractors
« on: August 14, 2006, 11:17:35 AM »
Here are some videos I found on private contractors a.k.a. "Mercenaries". There is a debate with foriegn government on who is responsible for the actions of private security contracting companies and what laws apply.

I have always thought that working for a PSD company would be a cool gig. But then you start to really look into the politics behind the actions. Not a good thing. There are close to 70 Private Security companies operating in Iraq as of today. Regulated by another private company. Non of these private security contract companies fall under Iraqi laws. In other words they are free to do what ever they want, when ever they want. They follow no laws in Iraq. Just like the Wild West was. Carry guns and shoot people cause they feel a slight threat or just plain want to shoot something.

Don't get me wrong. I feel there is a place for these companies. But some are operating wrecklessly. In the first video listen to the interview with the former lawyer who now works for a Contractor and gives his point of view, then watch the second video.

Just to let you know I'm not going to get into a pissing match with anyone about this. Just giving food for thought.

Who knows! You might see my mug in Iraq tuning Haji's.

The second video is cool, but everything I've read that's written by contractors on other forums say that Shadow Company is kind of horseshit and not really anything like what really goes on.

I don't know much about Shadow Co. But I've heard there are several small companies that are operating without being registered as an actual legit company in Iraq. As the guy in the video said, "some cowboy outfits".

Six figure incomes drive the industry.

Yeah, no shit.  my brother in law was a crew chief on a blackhawk and just got out.  he was here a month and got a job contracting (not security) fixing birds for raetheon over in afghanistan or kuwait making 10 grand a month take-home.

he signed up for two years.

I also work with some lady whose exhusband has been in the SEALS forever.  He works for Blackwater now teaching border protection in afghanistan.  He just goes back everytime he runs out of cash.

Another problem with them is that if you're captured, your captors get to decide whether you fall under Geneva convention rules or shot on sight.

Contracting is very lucrative because of the dangers involved. You get paid alot because there's a good chance when you fly home you'll be in the luggage compartment rather than 1st class or coach...

Hard to spend money when you're dead....but again, for me, the action IS the juice.

Right, but try to get someone to do the same job on minimum wage and see how that works out.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Toss the Geneva convention out the window. These guys play by a whole different set of rules. They can follow the rules but thats about it. They are not governed by a country when over seas. No country can take responsibility for any actions. Even the United States will not claim responsibility for any mishap. A lot of United States Armed Forces higher ups would rather see them go.

And Vince, when do you want to go. I just have to be back for my Daughters Birthday in December. ;) Very tempting!!

In one of the videos it sounded like he was using a CA CQB, but I'm not 100% sure on that one.

Actually in one of the Blackhawk videos when they're shooting from a roof top. There is a brief shot of a guy holding a CQB-R. It's about half way thru the video.

Warning!! One guy drops the "N-bomb".
