Because (and correct me if I'm wrong) Blackhawk is regarded as one of the best tactical gear manufacturers, so it's something that everyone wants but can't always afford.

Like when people absolutely had to have Levi's jeans, or Nike shoes.

So when people can't or won't buy Blackhawk (kinda pricey) they want something that looks similar so people don't stand and say "that looks cheap".

It's a style thing.

Blackhawk is really on the Low end of nice gear, they make a ton of product, and it is fine for what it is, but there is much better out there.
Eagle for one is a company that heavily outweights Blackhawk in product quality.

I have some gear made by some local people (Hawk) and I cant tell the difference in quality from his to some High end makers. (TT)

Blackhawk is made from foreign materials (Chinese) by foreign labor (Vietnamese).

It sucks.


Talk about cheap, shit beer too. Blackwater Gear had the decency to give out Sam Adams at SHOT Show.

Theres nothing wrong with blackhawk gear. I used some when i was in and i just got some new blackhawk gear. I wouldnt say they are pricey yea theres companys like Eagle and others that are made in the USA that cost way more. When it comes down to it price and durability are what matters. Id rather be wearing my plate harness with my molle attachements then my old LBV and still have money to buy food  ;).

I think you guys are missing the point that is trying to be made here. I myself and several people on the forum along with Military and LE have gear made by a local manufactures. "Local" meaning here in Phoenix and Tucson. Not manufactured outside the U.S. with cheap labor and cheap material. Blackhawk gear is the regular run of the mill s**t. These local manufactures will custome tailor your gear just the way you want it with a better quality in material and craftsmanship at an affordable, if not, better/cheaper price than Blackhawk w/lifetime guarantee. I believe they listen more with the feedback they get from customers. Meaning always coming out with newer, better and different gear. Blackhawk is just more popular due to advertising and marketing. Their product is fine for its use and will do the job. But there are better options at an equivelant (if not) better price.

The whole time I spent in Cali. Every game I went to there was at least 2-3 people asking me about my gear. Why? Because it was different and practical. S**t, even one guy was selling the Chuckwalla pouches made by Coyote Tactical at a game at double the value. Why? Because it was different, new, practical and a stellar quality product.

I hear all the time on this forum how people will and want to support our local economy when the opportunity comes along. Well here's your chance, put your money where your mouth is.

no kidding? dang and I thought the chuck fad was dead.

Blackhawk gear is a good intro to gear in general, a lot of gear makers stuff is a lot like blackhawk because they(blackhawk) nicked the designs and can out produce everyone else. There are a lot of pros for blackhawk gear, but I dont like it because of thier marketing strategies and less than high grade materials. I remeber walking past the blackhawk booth with my chuck to the wall so they wouldnt steel it and put me out of business.

Because you need someplace to rest your weary arms after carrying that heavy rifle around.

Seriously, I think more is more to a point.  You need to not only be reasonably self sufficient in the field, but also able to support your team members.  If 5 guys in your squad carry 6-10 mags each and you choose to carry 2, because thats all you need... well I think you get the picture.

I agree with the previous posters regarding Blackhawk specifically.  They have a few things that are made well, work, and are priced well, but be careful.  

Also agree with the "local vender" concept.  Perhaps the ideal situation is a buddy with: a good sewing machine, a relationship with a fabric source, and talent.
