I might have a problem.
« on: August 22, 2006, 05:13:21 PM »
Right.  So I just upgraded my CA G36C with a hurricanE kit(the spring is m120), a systema polycarb piston i think, and a KM titanium 6.04mm barrel.  I took my gun home to test it out with my FULLY CHARGED 1100mAh 9.6v Nimh battery, and it was dead in under 50 shots.  I think it was dead, or else the fuse or something.  Point is the gun would not fire.    At all.  My freind let me borrow his 8.4V NiCad 600mAh battery, it wouldn't fire either.  Anyways, the guy who did the job said a new battery with more mAh and a higer discharge rate would be in order.  This would also force me to purchase a stock which is rather pricy.
I've narrowd it down to several possibilities.
1) I need a "stronger" battery
2) I need a motor with more torque (unlikely)
3) My battery is old and dead and has no power to give.
4) Paul shimmed to tightly and will charge me more to fix it.
5) I need a new fuse or something. (I dunno much about fuses)
6) It's something else.

So Airsoft geniuses, help a fellow Zonie airsofter with a large problem, as I am missing several games. :(

EDIT: Problem resolved.  My fuse was dead, and the piston had stuck.  Paul took care of it.  Cool.

Paul from Jungle Toy who I believe to be experienced but perhaps a bit shady

He isnt shady and will be here in a minute to clear things up. At the least he is overworked and underapreciated.

Was the motor hot when you finished the 50rnds?
Is there a fuse box on your gun? did you check to see if it blew?
Could be a tight shim but I give paul the benefit of the doubt.

it could have been a short somewhere either in the wiring or in the motor.

I dunno about the motor, and I dunno "shady" might have been harsh.  I certainly don't doubt his talent and knoledge as it far surpasses mine.

I totally understand. That is the game you have to play when you are forced to leave the work of upgrading and repair to another. It is only natural to blame the only other person who has had a hand in a system that is now failing. I would say this, take it back to him and explain what happened and he can sort it out. Unless you have experience in upgrading and repair you realy wont be able to understand what is wrong or be able to fix it.

-First off, being new to the forums I think you would be a little careful on who you call shady. Most all of us either know each other or are good friends. Paul is a stand up guy and like Ganef said, "over worked, under appreciated".
-Second, it could be a number of things. But yes check the fuse (which should be an easy task).
-Third, it could be your battery is shit and you need a new one or a stronger one.
-Forth, check to see how tight your motor is against the gears in the gearbox.
-Fifth, there are a number of things you can check yourself.

Fantasic advice War Savage.  Provided I know how to do those things, and I don't.  And I already apologized for the "shady" comment.  I'm kinda quick to blame others, and I jump to conclusions alot.  The last thing I want to do is take it to JT or ASD or whereever, and have them charge me again.  I'm not full of money, I'm full of shit :D

   I take great offense at being called " Shady".
I was able to fire that G36 with a 9.6 2000 mah battery just fine. I told when you called, that you needed to fing a way to use a larger battery with a higher discharge rate. A discharge rate of 15 to 30 amps should suffice.
You need to look at the things I suggested to you during that phone conversation, such as the G&P stock (Talk to Ron at JT in Scottsdale he has one, and will be there through tomorrow.), or running a larger battery in a PEQ box.

the first thing i would check is your battery. make sure it's charged. make sure it's healthy. i.e. - the pack isn't shot due to a bad cell or something. odd heat marks/melted areas are a sure sign the pack is going. a 9.6/1100 should most definitely pull that spring no matter what else you have inside the gearbox.

it could also be the shim job. if it's too tight, it's going to cause a lot of pull. are you blowing your fuses left and right? that means there is too much draw. fuses don't like that. keep your fuse for now until you figure out the problem.

the motor might be going bad. it's normal to smell ozone when you fire but do you also smell burning plastic?

check your wiring. is anything exposed or broken? do your connection fit flush? is there a large are that gets hot when you fire? im not talking about the grip where the motor is.

lastly, Figueroa, WHAT'S YOUR FVCKING PHONE NUMBER??? I was stuck in Pheonix all day yesterday. bastards and your surprise storms...

If it died in 50 shots then it really seems more likely that your battery is shot. If it is the Nicad that came with the gun (and almost every 600mah is) then it dead. It depends on how you charged it, it may have been overcharged at some point.

There's no need to get a bigger stock, or even a battery box to get a bigger battery. There's a kid on these boards that claims Batteries Plus was able to make him a custom battery that was 4000mah that fit in the hand gaurd. Whether or not that is true, I don't know, but I can almost guaruntee you that they'll be able to fit a good battery that's 2000mah. If you play at the painball field, you may want to get two, but if you do longer range field games, it should last you all day.

Oh yeah. And Paul is legit. I shouldn't have had to tell you that.

Good luck with that, and there's no dumb questions. We need productive threads more like this.

Yes Paul, I know.  It was inappropriate.   I'm just slightly frustrated and... I dunno, scared isn't a good word.  It's a subject that I don't know alot about.   suppose I am also slightly annoyed by my inadequacy, but whatever, I'm still young.  I do need to get that battery from my freind.  He has one EXACTLY like mine, cuz my battery is pretty old.  The fuse? Yeah, once again. I dunno.   Paul, do you know of any battery place in town I could get a battery at? I'd like to test/ not pay for shipping.  You know.

Bring it by the Scottsdale store this weekend and WE can try it with a few different batteries. I will be back at that location on Thursday.
I stand behind my work, even if it means I have to open the GB again for free.
