I read this article a while back that was written by the owner of Airgun Designs, the maker of the Automag paintball guns.  It basically says that adding spin/twist (not back spin) to a spherical object in flight does little to aid accuracy - A ball can be only so aerodynamic.  They conducted several test with custom made barrels with rifling and even did one test with a glass barrel hooked up to a drill to spin the barrel while the paintball was fired out of it.

Yes, there is nothing to keep the ball from pitching and yawing like a football or taperd bullet, leading it to just tumble. Plus if using a hop up like dust said, the rotation would be negated or the hop up would be negated, you realy cant have both. Try firing a gun with the hop up on upsidown. No doubt the guys who thought of this had good intentions but they havnet seemed to gain much support from the end users.

yeah fish, i know that you know that longer is not always better. Remember the M4 i had with that long-ass (509mm) barrel? at the marauders game? i cound not get rid of that thing fast enough, it ONLY got in the way. It was NOT ANY more accurate than a barrel that was about 200mm shorter.

Vince is exactly right. With something perfectly round, the rifling will not be able to grab onto, and spin the BB over 1 joule (or exactly 330fps). The rifling effect will be completely negated (just like in the 1600's when they tried to rifle muskets) because the round object creates its own spin during travel.

no, actually the 509 was a prometheus, and the shorter M4 barrel was a mad-bull. i actually like the bull better then the M16 prometheus.

some advice, never get a deep fire tightbore, i had one it brought my accuarcy and range down, and my stock barrel was better.
