Ver.2 Troubles...
« on: September 25, 2006, 04:56:00 PM »
I have a TM G3 SG-1 that I recently put a Guarder FTK into. Every time I fire it, an unwinding sound emits from the gearbox after every shot, and it has difficulty firing on semi-auto, and often times it wont even fire on semi auto, it sounds like the gears wind up halfway then quit. Also when firing on full auto the shots seem to have differing amounts of power behind them. one shot will go 15 feet while another will go 90 feet and the majority shoot fine out to about 150 feet. I have opened up the gearbox about 6-7 times now, reshimming, switching out tappet plates, nozzles and even switched to systema gears, as well as triple checking the anti-reversal latch for proper operation and switching out the motor with another EG700. All of these different configurations resulted in the same operation. So my thoughts are that something is wrong with the gears/piston and that it is not getting pulled back all the way on every shot and that the whole mechanism is unwinding. I'm at a loss as to what is wrong, perhaps someone with a little more experience has encountered this problem before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It might be your battery. A friend of mine put a Guarder FTK and he needed a new battery.

It's not the battery. Before the FTK I was running an m120 on systema gears with my 9.6v 3000 mAh battery (which I have two of). Possibly it could be something related to the motor or wiring harness, but I'm not sure. thanks for trying though.  :)

I cant hear the sound (obviously) but i would guess its the anti-revearsal latch. IDK I would ask someone who really knows gearbox's.

My freinds ICS had the same problem and it turned out to be the latch.

Did you get the anti-reversal latch in place correctly?

Yes, it ratchets in the correct direction. I've closed the mechbox with just the bushings, shims, gears and anti-reversal latch in it to test the shimming and it all rotated very smoothly, and in only one direction. I'll check it again later, but I'm positive I had it installed correctly.

EDIT- After putting around 200 rounds through the gun a little while ago it has now changed its behavior, instead of not firing at all in semi-auto it now just fires full auto. Safety and Full-auto fire modes both function as they should. It still makes the unwinding noise after every shot, I'm going to take it all apart tommorow as I think the semi auto cutoff lever has broken or worn down  (it is a four year old stock TM part  ) and maybe was the culprit for the irregularities in semi-auto earlier. It does not, however, explain the weird gear noises and if anyone has any ideas besides those dealing with the anti-reversal latch I'd be indebted to you for your expertise. The gears unwinding, as I listen more carefully to it, is very shortin duration, but noticeable, and I can hear when the anti-reversal latch catches the gear, it makes a very definitive "clack". So basically the gears unwind after firing, but only until the anti-reversal latch catches them. I'm at a loss...

Believe me its not the anti-reversal latch...I put the latch in the exact same way I have on the other 4-5 guns I have upgraded that work flawlessly.

Well I located the source of the bb range problems, as well as the semi-auto problem, but I can't get rid of the strange gear noise...

Well I guess you fixed it, but my first guess would have been the selector plate/ wireing/ trigger mechanisms. As for the noise your motor might not be meshing to the first gear very well. it might be either too far in or too far out.

It wouldn't be the wiring/sector plate because if those were fried the gun wouldn't shoot at all. There would be no power running from the battery to the mechbox.

Well I resolved the semi auto problem, but the fact is it still makes the stange noise after firing, and it's not the anti-reversal latch, its not the motor positioning, and I'm at a loss. Right now it fires fine so I suppose I can live with it, it just sounds really horrible when fired and I'm worried its putting extra strain on the parts.
