It's a waste, just a standard famas with some add ons. I heard wood and stopped playing the video.

Any big airsoft dealer has the Pulse Rifle from Aliens as well. There are a few how-to sites but I've never looked into them. I'm more of a rocket/plane person.

Look at WGCshop and go under special items.  They have some gun conversion kits.

please explain how gears can rub together inside of a closed gearbox. I do think it would be possible but how would it happen?

They aren't shimmed correctly.
