Biodegradable BBs: Real or Myth?
« on: October 02, 2006, 08:36:02 PM »
Guys, has this topic been discussed before? I'm new to this forum. Do they really turn into powder after rain and sun exposures in short period of time? Or is it just a hype from manufacturers?

They degrade.

After about ten years.

Really just horseshit.

Okay, but besides the time it takes for them to degrade, is there any diffrence between the two as in what they leave in the enviroment?

There is really only one brand of true bio-bb's.  They sell them on dedusa.com.  Forgot what they are called.  As for KSC and Excel, only the glue that holds the halves together is somewhat biodegradeable, so they are allowed to call them "bio bb's."  Other than that, no, they are the same.

That's the one.  I have some that I got about 5 years ago, never used them.  They seem to start spontaniously(SP) growing things out of them.

Other than the Army is requiring that we use them on their bases for ops such as Irene and Bulldog.

We paid $10 a bag for a 1500 round bag of .25 Excel Bios and they shot just as good as any decent BB.

I don't use them for anything else though - just the national ops that require them.

Well, the only problem with bios is that they measure out smaller/more inconsistantly than normal BBs. Normal Excels measure something like 5.995mm, with bios comin in less, so, they're not optimal.

Also, Doug, you guys should look into getting on board with Darrell Ramsell instead of goin' through Depot 53. Supporting business is cool, but, bios are $8 shipped vs $10, so that's like, $48 less per case.

I did notice my shot group was broader but most of my shots were pretty close range at Zussman anyway.

Don't know who Darrell Ramsel is??  $10 a bag was the cheapest I found delivered to Zussman but I'm all about saving a buck.... or $48 as it were.

I'm going to need more for Bulldog anyway....

Darrel Ramsell runs BFX Imports.

I was wrong, it's more like, $99 per case since a case is 48 and I am fairly sure it works out to something like, $7.93 per bag after shipping, so, it's a good deal. The rub is, you have to order  $300 of BBs for your first order, but I don't think that would be tough because a case of bios is $380, I think. That's assuming cases are 48 (I thought they were 24, but the site says otherwise).

You guys probably shouldn't have a problem doing a case...that's like, 4-5 bags per person with some left for next year.

My understanding is the Bio's don't hold up over time - like the ones I bought last year would not shoot well this year, etc.  I don't recall where I heard that from but I just bought what I thought I would need this year and had a bag left over.

Do you have a link for BFX ?
