warning...do not go to this store.
« on: October 02, 2006, 09:24:03 PM »
I was out today looking for a real firearms store - swung by Arizona Tactical Firearms on Baseline...

First off the shop has very little to sell, other than a ton of holsters, couple of handguns, and some knives - but whatever. Prices seemed a bit steep for just about...everything.

One guy in there was nice, one guy was like a used car salesman (I can tell...I used to be a car salesman!).  The guy was young, but eventually I figured that they would be in the know, so I asked the following...

me: how much does a decent mauser go for around here...
him: ...a nauser?
me: nah, mauser.
him: what...whats that?
me: (jaw dropped)...uh...mauser...kar98...
him: uh...hmmm....
me: german bolt action...sometimes called 8mm...
him: aw dude, I'm totally new guns....

I left immediately.  If that guy somehow plays airsoft...or someone on here knows that store...I apologize, but I'll be damned if I'll buy anything from a shop staffed like that.  Unfortunately that one guy lost the store any future business I may have.

ps: the guy also had a nice jackass/sarcastic tone in his voice...yahoo.

Well, it was probably this guy Ron (not Bilodeau) who I hear is a ponce, but also understand..Arizona Tactical Firearms sells...tactical firearms, namely C3 goods, so, don't go to the Maserati dealership expecting to buy a Yugo.

Don't compare a Kar98 to a Yugo, it'd be more like...  a honda civic ;)

Well, see, it was a little bit of a tongue-in-cheek reference, given that lots of Mausers are Yugos :D

lol, I wasn't looking for a Mauser at that shop...but to find someone who is involved in the firearms business who doesn't recognize a mauser....would be similar to going to a car dealership and saying "I used to drive a VW bug."

"a what?"

straight unacceptable in my book. :-)

When i go to a gun store, I always ask some sort of general question that I already know the answer to.  That way is gives me some sort of guage as to how knowledgeable, or trustworthy the guy is.  I started this after making some bad purchases at the recomendation of some gun store owner.  Also just because a gun has a life time warranty doesn't make it quality.  Just my two cents.

It is not just this store or just gun stores!
All over it feels that no matter what they may sell that only 25% of the staff have a clue. If there are 4  poeple working that means one guy there has a clue and by then doesn't not have the personality to DEAL with the public.
I have worked retail, gun shows, snow board and bike stores, as a cook in resturants...... it gets old fast, burn out is high and the those that stay are the ones that ususlly can not find any where eles to hire them long term. The best reps at a store almost always go out and start their own stores.

Good luck, but you do have soem great gun shows coming to Pheonix so cheer up you could live in Tucson! Half our good stores have closed and the ohtere half sound just like what you incountered. Every one knows what an m16 is but what about the ar180s or a bm54 or.....I could go all day but you get the point.
