M16

Good stock FPS around 300-350

Cons
Long
Not good for room clearing
Can have barrel wobble on the TM or other non metal ones.

M4

Most common Weapon
Many after market parts avaible
Good stock FPS around  300- 350

Cons
short barrel can cause lack of range and accuracy
not good for long range
can have barrel wobble on the TM, or any non metal ones

the barrel wobble can be fixed pretty easily tho. but what are you going for in the rifle, like what do you want to do when you play, were do you inted to play, what kind of gun are you looking for/appeal to you, etc.

I have the CA M15A4 (which is a replica of the M4A1).  I absolutely love it, couldn't have asked for a better gun.  It's very versatile, good for a lot of different purposes.  I guess it's sort of a "general application" gun.

CA M16 variants never have barrel wobble because of the metal receiver and the one piece barrel, and since CA has really improved their internals over the years, there is really no reason to buy a TM unless it's a project gun.

In reality get a CA M16 or M4, its all the same and you will see no diffrence in the field. Only difference is your pref if you like a longer rifle or a shorter one.

Note, the older M16 ar not as preupgraded as the later M4s and new M16s

I said the TM ones have barrel wobble.
