Is it possible to convert M16 to 3 round burst?
« on: January 02, 2007, 08:53:58 AM »
I was wondering if it was possible to change an M16's gears around by switching out the full-auto and replacing it to get a 3 round burst instead??? If you have any ideas please feel free to tell them.

  Thanks in Advance!!!!  :D

I have never heard of this myself. I recall the Sig 551 had burst capabilities, but it had multiple problems. The problem is that if you do it mechanically, there could be problems. It is my understanding that the Marui Type 89 has burst, but it is an electrical modification, not a mechanical one.

Yes, you can do it, but you have to get a circut that will cut off after the 3rd round.  Search on ArniesAirsoft.co.uk  it's been done before, several times.  You just have to create the circut for the appropriate battery, problem with the SIG 550 and 551 were people using higher voltage batteries, and they'd fry it.

you can also practice so that you can control your fire in a 3 to 5 round burst....

Or....SEMI AUTO!!! Its what real soldiers use!!!

I've only in my entire military life(2 years!) used an M16A2/A4 in burst for one iteration of fire(about 20 rounds).

But you know that in airsoft, sometimes semi doesn't cut it. 3rd burst in airsoft, in my idea, would be effective. But I'll stick to full auto bursts.

Agreed, control burst is the best idea, but it'd still be nice to see a custom 3 round burst gun here.  Semi auto, in your AEGs, is often inconsistant depending on where the piston stops at, giving you a smaller probability of hitting your target.  3rd burst would be effective, and unique.  That is why I hope to see someone put one of these circuts in their gun.

Why isn't it effective? I along with several other of my peers used it to great effect this weekend. It not only wastes less ammo, but it encourages marksmanship, and teamwork. If you and your buddy can talk your guns back and forth to put fire on a target, they can be effectively eliminated.

- A BB has much less power than a bullet, obviously. Semi-auto won't cut it when firing at a moving target because of wind and because of travel time. I remember a product you can attach to your battery that you configure manually--set the gun to full-auto and set said product to stop the flow from your battery to your gun after a certain amount of time, allowing a burst of... whatever you want, though I think the manufacturer intended for it to be a three-round burst.
- Anyone have any idea about this "product" I'm talking about?

I agree with you here. There is a big difference in ballistics between a .223 FMJ and a .20g plastic BB. Recoil, distance, speed, trajectory; to name a few. Not to mention, you're looking at holding 30 rnds with an AR, as opposed to 400 with airsoft. At a 3 rnd burst, 10 shots vs 40 is a big difference.

IMO, a 3 rnd burst would be nostalgic, and interesting, but I don't see the functional purpose behind it.  As for learning to time/count your full auto bursts, put a phrase to it. Sound off when you fire, and you'll be close.

example: For the M60 and the .50, we used the phrase 'Die Mother F*er Die'. That was a 10 round burst.

68 rounders is all I need. Learn the reload button video game whores.

Depends on the gun Im using and how that gun funtions. One I can fire as fast as I pull the trigger and that is fast enough. The other is much slower so a 3 round burst in auto is very easy to do.  From experience I usually put 3 rounds into a target, depending on distance, as there is no mistaking the sound of 3 thwaps.  So I can see 3 round burst being useful, just don't be pulling down on the trigger so much that you might as well be in full auto.
