Aye, Shipping from HK can be expensive.  Back when I wanted an M4 SRC's were one of my first choices however As a gun they are ok guns.  Probably not the most reliable but after some choice upgrade parts its going to be on par with most other stock guns.  (Simple stuff such as replacing the motor, wiring harness and reshimming the gearbox)  and leaving the rest stock it would be good.  If your looking at shooting at 400 FPS w/ .2g bb's then your gonna have to replace the whole internals.  You could even use those "crappy" (Crappy is in quotes because they arnt) TM Piston and Piston head if you'd like.  The other thing I noticed is that the hop up unit (like on most armalites) requires some serious thought too.  maybe replacing the hop up sleeve and nub?  Its a good project platform.  However if an armalite is what you wish I'd suggest getting either an ICS or CA armalite.  Either will suit you just as well.  If you'd like more details you can PM me with more questions or anyone else on the forum and i'm sure they'd be glad to help you out.

The important thing to remember about AEG's is to go to a store and hold each gun before buying!!!!

Bucking?

Call it what you will.  Sleeve is easier to refer to then bucking because some people think the bucking is the nub and some think its the sleeve... just making it easy to read.

The TM Looks ok.  If your gonna get a new spring your probably going to want metal bushings too just to play it safe.  :)

greg123,  I can understand that you are on a budget, but take my advice if you can't afford exactly what you want right now, wait.  Save up some more money and get an aeg you won't regret.  Trust me nothing sucks worse than finding out your bargin gun just doesn't live upto to expecatations.  I know, I did this several times when I was playing paintball.  Also if your going to use this thing to skirmish I would recommend something with a metal body so that it will last.  Just my two cents.

I found that upgrading: gears, spring, piston(optional) and then metal bushings since your in there, to be a good way to go. Anything else is just preference. Average out 360+ fps (depending on spring)

Most of my M4s are plastic SRCs with just the gears and springs changed out.

Finally the latest metal Src M4s have been holding up fine at 330fps stock.

greg123... try checking out this site http://ricksairsoftarmory.com/

The prices are reasonable and the guy ships from southern california so you don't have to pay the large shipping cost from HK. And free shipping on all CA AEGs...

I'll second rick's, I got my SAW for a good price from that place and it didn't take no more than 2-3 days to get to me.

What's goin on fella's!

greg123...shop well my friend.  Shop well.  And sinse we are on the subject of SRC, what do you fella's know about the RPK?  I would like to build a support weapon. To be honest...I do have a soft spot for Russian weapons.

On the other hand, If had the cash I would look into an M60 or M249...that would be fun.  But I just don't have the funds for that sort of system.  Perhaps in my dreams...but not here in reality. I could work with the RPK and not put such a dent in the wallet as it were.

Now I have heard that the RPK does make a nice project, Im just wondering what are my options in regards to internal upgrades?  And does anyone know if this replica will take that 3000rd. drum magazine that is on depot53 and other sites?

Just asking some questions and reading reviews to see what can be done with this killer lookin replica.  I'm not really sure if any other company offers an RPK AEG...

Hmmm.

The SRC RPK will accept any mags intended for CA or TM AKs.

The more important point is the angle of the stock and the bizarre flashhider. I would look into it more online because it seems from pictures and the little I have read about them that the externals are really awful.

The quality is supposed to be on the level of the latest SRC AEGs, which is to say, passable.

Yeah you have a point there on the externals Vince...SRC could have done a better job on that.  Looking at the butt stock and pistol grip in the photos I have seen online...they look...well toyish!  As far as the flash-hider goes...they did get that correct.  The Russian Army as well as the Romainian Army did run that style flash-hider up until the early 90's.  Im sure some other countries still use it.  Most of the modern RPK's in service run the more modest AK-47 FH.

The online stores that do carry the RPK claim it will shoot 300 FPS with 0.20 bb's.  Then again some people state that it's a more realistic 270 - 290 FPS.  I don't know for I have never held one nor have fired one.

Do you have any idea's as to what would be a good start internal wise?  Does SRC make upgrades for these AEG's...or would you just build it over the counter so to speak?

I dunno, I fail to see the corelation between a gun that breaks all the time and a good starter gun???  Get the new AIM Metal body guns from M4Airsoft.  I've heard many people talk about it being better then the SRC's so it might be worth reading some more into.  Barring that of course save up for a TM Ak or if your dead set on an M4 get a CA or ICS
