Help with CIRAS Style Plate Carrier
« on: March 05, 2007, 11:32:56 AM »
Wanted to check with you guys since you're pretty cutting edge with your gear. For years I've used the old harness and pouches and thanks to some motivation from you guys@OPLC & OPI I've made the switch. I've FINALLY switched to a Plate Carrier from Tactical Assault Gear.

Now the problem is that I did not realize that there is a Generation II that has side panels so I've lost some real-estate on the side and  was thinking of buying it:
http://www.tacticalassaultshop.com/cgis ... 97998.3904

While I was searching, I found this but don't want to pay $500 for it:
http://www.tacticalassaultshop.com/cgis ... 97998.3904

So with that said, what CIRAS Style do you recommend?  I've read some stuff on the Phantom but was not sure who they are or where it's manufactured.  I've figured you guys would know.

The main questions:
#1  Does it hold up in reagrds to durability?
#2  Does it require fake and or real plates to keep the shape?
#3  Does it have that "Guarder Metal Cord" that keeps it together?
#4  Is it comfortable?

Let me know what you guys think.  Also are you going to OPLC VI?
PM me if you are.

     Thanks in advance,
      Marlon

Answers:

1) the one that Airsofter1 (mikey lee) has been using seems to have held up realy well (supprising to me).

2)It does require some sort of rigid plate to keep its shape, especially in the back where all the parts attach.

3)I beleve it does, the loop in the back isnt dacron but if you need some I have some.

4)Mikey will have to vouch for that, I wore a ciras for Irene3 and it killed. I wear nothing but my own design chest rigs for airsoft so that my shoulders dont die. It realy depends on you buying the right size and not loading it up with a ton of heavy shit you dont need.

Thanks.  I knew I could count on you guys.  So tha Phantom works, ok.
In regards to the "Guarder Cord" thanks for the offer, I was trying to see if it didn'te come with it because I use to have that Guarder Ranger Vest that was REALLY bulky.  Hated that front zipper.  So Phantom it is.  I'll check it out.  Thanks for the advice!!!!!!

   PS
I forgot:  Which is better Land or Maritime?

I was just saying the other day; "You know who is REAL fucking cool? Marlon Castro."

What's up, Top?

The difference between Land and Maritime is the way it opens....wait for Raith to tell you otherwise, but, I think they have the same amount of PALS webbing.

That's the land version. The cummerbund has a flap covering it in the front and it opens on the front.

That's the maritime version. The cummerbund opens on the side. This is the one Mikey has.

I think it's just a matter of opinion, which is better.

Are you gonna make it out to LCVI? I know Arizona will be rollin heavy again this year, maybe too heavy.

#1 Mine has been holding up very well.  I have a decent amount of weight hanging on it, and it is still holding up very well.
#2 You could use it without plates, but I find it rides better with something rigid in the plate pockets.
#3 Yes
#4 I find it very comfortable.  I also use the internal cummerbund too.  I rocked it for a day with some ESAPI plates in it and felt that it distributed the weight very well.  No sore bodyparts on me, but then again I'm hardcore.  This was also the same set up I wore at Irene IV.

With a matter of "best" it realy depends on you and your pouch arrangement.
The maritime has two flaps that meas that you cant put pouches across the seams on one side, or both if that is how you want to enter and exit. With the land version you cant put them on either side of the middle flap or you wont be able to get in and out of it. So "best" depends on the arrangement of pouches that you will be placing on the vest.
I dont like the maritime due to the way I place my pouches and because I like to have the entry and exit in front of me instead of around my side.  Also the land version dosent have that release point taking up a large portion of the top area of the vest taking away what is another mounting row on the front of the land version.

Thanks for coming thru you guys.  And yes I think AA is EXTREMELY F***ING COOL!!!!!  If you guys can, please send me one of your OD patches so I can attach it to my Plate Carrier.  Looks like I'm going Maritime just so I can open it from the side.  So the question now is, WHO TO BUY IT FROM and more importantly, what size......Suggestions?!!?  I've just checked eBay but not sure if I should buy from Canada or Asia.  Though I'm starting to get what this CIRAS thing is.  May have to break down and buy the TAG Model.

Whoooo HOOOOO the Admiral will be PISSED about that.

   Thanks for the advice,
    Marlon

If from Canada means from '1337tactical', DJMtott on this board bought his P-RAS from there, and it came. Raven1 tried to buy a  P-RAS from Asia from 'eHobbyAsia' and it came out AFU.

I bought one from http://www.uncompany.com. Got here pretty quick......I'm satisfied with it so far.  It comes in OD, Tan, ACU and desert MARPAT for $130.
