Tucson Jungletoy CLOSED

<<<READ THE SUBJECT LINE

As of Monday April 2, The Tucson JT is now closed... Ethan the manager was given a whole 2 day notice that said that they were closing soon... only to find out the next time that he came to work, they were closed.

Ding Ping Dai Yu(this may or may not be his real name... workvisas and all) aka "John" the owner of the Jungletoy Corporation has said that since nobody wanted to support the store, and that since everybody wanted the latest and greatest airsoft products (aka AEG's and gas guns) that "You guys can just order your stuff online!"

Anybody having issues with this closure should go to the JT @ www.jungletoy.com website or call the corporate number @1-886-JUNGLE6

I have a better idea what we should do with JT issues, but it is frowned upon in most countries.

I hate seeing companies that just royally screw their employees over like that.  Oh, BTW: Your fired.  Effective tomorrow.

No one was "royally screwed over," but admittedly all involved would have liked to have had more notice for something like this. The lease was up, store performance was down, so it was decided within the last two days to just shut it down and focus on other projects. No other notice could have been given under those circumstances. Besides, Ethan would have found out as soon as the decision was made if he would have checked his phone messages.

And yes, John (his real name btw) did say to just order stuff online, because there's not another airsoft store in the Tucson area now that we're closing. Don't read too much into it as being malicious or bitter, because it wasn't.

So to recap: JUNGLETOY TUCSON IS NOW CLOSED. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, direct your inquiries to ron@jungletoy.com. I guarantee to be more informative than the 1-886 number. ;)

Maybe not at that one, but I know other people who worked at JT and were.  The fact is, it is good business practice to notify an employee more than 48 hours before the end of his employment.

Would you be referring to the one that was fired, or the one that couldn't work a full school schedule and a full-time manager position so we parted ways mutually and moved over a manager from a store that had recently closed? Not that it's any of your concern either way, but you really should get all the facts or just stay out of it all together if it doesn't directly involve you. Thanks for the input though.

NOT............Right to work state bud!. In fact most all firing or layoff happen right before your shift or after

Can you image what would happen if a disgruntled employee was told 48 hours in advance they would be fired or laid off.

In the information security field, its not uncommon for people to be asked to leave immediately after the person is informed, passwords are changed, etc. If you give a two weeks notice, its really just an immediate notice with an extra two week's pay.

I work at CompUSA and they called and gave us "60 to 90 days."  People have had so much time on their hands to whine about it, and to be bored, that store performance is down the hole.  The ONLY time a phone gets answered is if a manager specifically walks up to someone and says "Pick up that phone that is ringing."  The other day, someone actually went and turned all the ringers off.  Our new favorite hobby is to have "meetings" in the GM's office in which 8 of the 10 or 12 employees working that night sit around and play/watch someone else play flash games.  People lose all hints of giving-a-sh*t when they know they're about to get laid off.

It's a bummer for sure due to the fact that it slightly effects our 'walk in' numbers for the sport here in the Tucson area for the time being.  I myself came into the sport due to a gun that was bought as a gift and given to me to shot at my girlfriends brother (the gun was a wal-mart springer but could easily have been a JT weapon).

As to the point of the layoff...  I think it's been covered, you don;t lay someone off and let them stay on the premises for the most part, most people simply cannot be trusted to handle it maturely and the end result is stealing and sabotage.  In general the practice in the norm and it's nothing personnel, just good business sense.

What has me concerned is the fact that the JT here in Tucson was doing gun repairs, how are these guys supposed to get their guns back now?  Nil8r, you have any insight on that one?

As for the repairs, most of that has already been taken care of. Again, if anyone has any questions, reach me at ron@jungletoy.com

Ron,

I realize I only get one side of the story but from the side I get, it certainly sounds like JT doesn't treat their employees well.  I got to know the first employee over there pretty well and I know the other two very well.  In addition their view point on how they are treated (even if it is wrong, which maybe it is) does effect your customers as happier employees will do a better job.  Nobody likes going into a store and being helped by a pissed off employee.  Trying to blame your employee's for poor sales when you no longer carry quality products is just wrong.

In addition, I have emailed you before with comments/feedback and I never heard back.  I don't know if you just didn't read the email, didn't care, or just didn't feel like it needed a response.

As for good business practice...  In my experience except in fields such as information security, they usually give you a week.  The last job I worked at, they gave you two.  It was up to you if you actually came in or not, but they gave you two weeks pay.

Ron, even with employee relations aside (and there will always be two viewpoints on that) it seems that JT is being run into the ground.  Once again, I know that most business decisions go above you but what happened to the days where JT actual sold stuff we want?  The only reason I have gone into JT in the past year and a half was for repairs, some SRC parts for an emergency repair, or as a meeting place for something else.  The fact that JT is having to close so many stores shows something is wrong, but the people with the money there either can't figure it out or don't care.
