FAMAS parts- sources?
« on: April 23, 2007, 12:48:42 AM »
So I ran my little google+search button features, but didn't come up with any sources for version 1 mechbox parts. Here's my list of questions:

which parts (other than the box itself, trigger mechanism, and tappet) are common to v2/v3 boxes?

is there a source for replacement parts, and if so, where?

what are the known issues with the v1 gearbox?

is anyone other than TM going to come out with a FAMAS any time soon?

I'm looking to get a second AEG, and would love to have a FAMAS as an alternative to my AK, but i'm painfully aware of how frequently AEG's can break, so I don't feel comfortable buying a gun with NO sources for the bits and gomers that break. I can deal with long lead times on orders, so any source is acceptable.

Thanks in advance

Regarding the compatibility, somebody else will have to answer.  Regarding the parts: good luck.  The FAMAS is one of TM's oldest models and none of the other guns use the V1.  Personally if you are looking to get a new gun, get one that is still in production and uses current, widely available parts.

G&G are working on developing a Famas for 2008.  It's on their website.  I think it's great, because I too want an updated FAMAS, and by 2008 I'm sure my CA M15 will be wearing out.

Sorry if this is old news to any here.  I just know how much of a pain it is for FAMAS lovers in the market for a replica.  I originally wanted one, but bought the M15 because of the lack of V1 parts.

Hey guys. I haven't been on for awhile. Anyways, parts compatible with the famas are most V2 gearbox parts EXCEPT the tappet plate, selector switch, electrical stuff, etc. The gears, bushings, springs, piston (half tooth), and piston head are compatible. Cylinder heads are compatible if you put a little bit of electric tape around it so they don't slide around in there.

The only problems with the V1 gearboxes is that it can hold up to an M110, and i have heard rumors of M120's and m130's in a version 1 gearbox. I personally dont want to chance my gearbox breaking, so i only put an m100 in it. the other problem is the motor. The motor is a high speed motor but cannot pull large springs. That is another contributing factor to only being able to use low powered springs. Other than that it's just a matter of finding parts.

Go to trinityairsoft.com and click on "famas" under the "parts specific" menu thing on the left side of teh screen. then click on the famas that you want, V1 or SV, then all the compatible parts will come up. Trinity actually has quite a few parts on there.

As for it actually breaking, mine broke a couple of months ago for teh first time in 2 years. and that is after all kinds of wear and tear, dirt, a whole ton of custom modding, etc.
