« on: August 20, 2007, 08:11:30 PM »
Anybody know if there is a local store in the valley that sells ESS goggles?

Have you tried them on before?

www.safetyglassesusa.com is the cheapest place to get them, I believe.

No, I haven't tried them...I have some nice safety glasses that are ansi rated but while cruisin' some of these forums I saw a thread on goggles and wrote down all the ones that were listed and checked them all out on the net. I then saw that the ESS's offered a nice presciption insert so I thought I would ask about local stores... Some of the sites weren't very clear in their descriptions of said products and if I was going to order over the net I would be all pissed off if I didn't get what I wanted... It would be nice to have prescips in my eye protection. I can see fine without, but it would make the whole experience that much nicer. I'll have a look at your posted link....

AZ Tactical might carry ESS, but I doubt it.  If you do end up buying them I recommend www.safetyglassesusa.com too.

I use a pair of Turbofan Profiles with a prescription insert and really like them.  I could bring them by Ron's store in Tempe sometime if you want to check them out.

I was checking out that link site and maybe I will order from them...I see where the also have some safety glasses that will accept the prescrips insert as well...Maybe while we're at it you guys can put my wife to ease about the "eye protection"... I see in alot of the pics guys are wearing safety glasses and a few are wearing goggles...any idea what percentage of guys are wearing what? And me being new here, Do any of the bb's make it behind your safety glasses???  I want to put her to ease about the issue...Thanks!

Most of the people without the necessity for vision correction wear shooting glasses.

I've never had a BB come back behind mine and I have been playing for about three years now.

Keep in mind that some games require sealed eye protection, such as the upcoming OP Bushmaster, while other don't. There is also the fogging up issue with eyewear thast must be addressed.

ESS goggles are rated for shrapnel . We had a guy that it probably save his vision because of them.. the shrapnel hit his lens and stuck right into it about 3/4 inches away from his right eye.

A airsoft BB will not pierce shooting glasses for that matter. They even have a hard time going through standard glasses. You can get ESS goggles they are really only good because they dont fog up so easily . But you are spending more money . Though if that is not a factor By all means.

Our Wiley X sunglasses will even stop  a metal BB.

Shooting glasses and seal googles.  Glasses there is always that possibility that a bb enters on the rear side of the glasses, hits the inside of the lense and bounces back into your eye.  There is a risk, people take risks everyday in there life. Question is what risks do you want to take?

Sealed goggles or glasses have better protection but I have seen goggles where the foam sides have large enough openings for bbs to get through as well.

The ESS Profile Turbo fans have small enough holes on the left and right sides to protect you from bbs.  Though the top and bottom foam ridges have larger rubber slits in the goggle to allow for air flow. These slits are large enough in my opinion to allow a bb to possibly get through.  Chances are slim but plausible.  Again Risk over Reward.  I wear these goggles and never worry about those slim chances.

I was just looking at those turbofan goggles, do your eyes tend to dry up with the air movement? And how about noise? They do look good though!

Eyes do not dry out due to air movement.  The fan blows air out from the top of the goggles so when its on high you can feel a slight breeze across your eyebrows but that’s about it.  I tore the foam off the sides to gain more airflow but that’s a personal decision.  Most will probably be very happy with the anti fogging system.

Noise, yes the fan does make some noise.  When they are new the low speed is very quite barley noticeable while the high speed would make a whisping sound.  Now that mine are older the fan makes about the same amount of grinding noises for both set points.  I have found or been warned of hiding people due to their fan systems running but for the most part by the time you can hear the fan you will probably be dead.  And for those times you worry about the fan noise, you can just quickly turn it off.
