Do you have an CA M14 or SOCOM?
« on: August 29, 2007, 04:40:19 PM »
I'm not sure when the CA M14/SOCOM came onto the market but I would like to know if any of you care to respond to how well you like it or not? I would like to get one and the guys at APD mentioned that I might want to wait a few months or so... to kinda let the "new" model "bugs" get  worked out...Any problems so far? Thanks for any info!

I have the match version and love it .. good range for a stock gun, I do recommend not using G&P mags in it though .. they dont seat as well as the CA ones.

I have one and it performs very well, ignore Vince's random ranting, he's very tempremental when it comes to guns.  I dont know if he's seen one yet but its pretty nice.  (About the only CA gun i'll support)

So far, I have had only two major problems, one is that when I was disassembling the gun, the cheap plastic part they use for hte fire selector broke, the other is the gun is horrifically overshimmed and as a result the stock motor wouldnt pull an m120, by the time i got it reshimmed I had already ordered a new motor.  Lucky me!

Mine as is has the following done to it:
Systema M120
Prometheus Hard Piston
Prometheus Hard Piston Head
Prometheus V3 Spring Guide
Systema Magnum Motor
Madbull Fishbone Hop Up

When it was shooting at the last game I played at i was getting around 200 feet of range with no drop at all.  It also chronoed at 380 fps (that was just an M120 spring drop in, not the new stuff)  Its beastly.  Unlike its G&G counterparts that may have had a rough start this one is rock solid.  (Then again i've only seen one G&G m14 go down in about 6-7 and it was something as trivial as a bb jam)

If you get a CA, you get an awesome deal, if you get a TM you get an awesome deal, your not shit outa luck either way.

Sorry that my opinions are that when it comes to any particular gun with multiple manufacturers -- you've usually got the shitty one.

The TM mags are far far nicer than the CA ones, and the hop up is much more consistent. I've seen one CA one and it was OK, but it's nowhere near the TM, and the TM one has a metal barrel and receiver as well, so, I don't know why anybody would buy anything else.

That would of course be your oppinion, alot has changed since last semester Vince.  I cant wait to play again as my Crappy guns are always itching to kick some serious butt :P

I've seen several of both types of guns of which both are comparable.  I prefer the CA metal on the M14 over the TM one, it just feels better in my hands.  (Having shot the real one several times I can vouch that the CA and G&G VETERAN feel more like the real one then the TM)  Not to mention my TM went through hell and ended up not making it.  My ICS has survived it and so has the Warrior 1, The CA i'm very interested in seeing how well it performs up in the desert.

My TM M14 has gone to more games than I think you've probably ever gone to in this state, at least, and it has never had a single problem, nary even a jam.

Maybe you just treat/maintain your guns like shit. I don't know many people who have has as many problems as you have.

I have owned both the TM and CA m14 rifles. I loved them both. I liked the mags better with the TM but the better rifle went to CA.  The gearbox on the CA was beafier and the whole gun just felt more solid. Plus with the CA hitting 340 out of the box with .20s over the Tm shooting 280 you cant go wrong.  Plus the CA is cheaper.

Thanks for the replies! I think I may spring for one... Does CA happen to make the spring loaded mags like the 130 rnd ones for AR's? Or are they only HiCap??? Also, do TM mags fit in CA's?  Whiskey11, I'll keep your mods in mind, I like the sound of 200ft without drop...  And Brando, I'll be see'in ya soon...

CA does have standards.

The TM mags will not fit.

G&G mags fit in the CA.

Vince I dont treat my guns like shit, I expect them to perform in tough conditions and the TM just didnt.  I dont want to sit there and baby the damn guns becaue they are ment to be used in battle simulation, not sit and look pretty above the god damned fire place.

I have a TM socom 16, I've never "babied" it and it's never failed.

I put an old m120 and it shoots 350 fps w/ .25s and it's one of the more  accurate aegs I've used/seen.

well, other than Vince's m14, that thing's a force of nature.

Get the TM.
