For your first AR I suggest LMT (Lewis Machine & Tool), Sabre Defense, CMMG, and possibly Stag Arms or Armalite.

Quote from: "Up State"
i know you can get actual armalite m16 and m4s at cabellas. they only shoot semi though. and they cost like 500-650 for a m4 and 600-800 for a m16. and the m16 are the original VN type.

FN and Colt make "actual" M4s and M16s (FN primarily M16A4 and Colt primarily M4).

When someone says M16/M4 I think of it having the happy switch (full auto or 3rd burst).  AR-15 denotes semiauto ARs.

Vicious Squid, do you have firsthand experience with those firearm manufacturers?

I have experience with DPMS, FN, and Colt ARs.  I had a DPMS that ran like a champ for thousands of rounds, and I STILL have a hard time recommending them.  It takes ALOT of flawless function for me to recommend a particular brand of firearm - although if you ask me about pistols, I'll say GLOCK hands down, and I only have 600 rounds through mine.

Just understand that you can't go onto an airsoft forum and ask about firearms, without having to spend minutes of your life separating the wheat from the chaff.

Can someone post pics of their new LWRC CQB already?

I have had experience with CMMG regarding their mag extensions for the Five-seveN.  No complaints with their CS, Shipping, etc.  However the product leaves something to be desired.  They function very poorly, as in unusable.  The springs are way too weak.  This would make me question the quality of their products.

Their AR's might be completely different, but this would make me question the quality of their products.

I still have no complaints about my Ameetec AR.

Just out of curiosity though, why did we revive this thread?

Wow, interesting thread...I really suggest that those of you that think you know...and don't...get some training on the AR15 and become educated on what is, and what is not. Vince, you have, clearly, a crasp on things AR related.

To chime in on a month old thread, I just got my ameetec lower with a DTI m4 upper out to the field today and it ate through 500 rounds of wolf ammo and another 100 m885 5.56 ammo without a single hiccup.

Out the door with tax the total setup cost me $650. Its pretty damn accurate at 150 yards too. From a sitting position (not bench) I was scoring consistent 8,9 and 10's on the sillouette with a cheap no name 4x scope.

I know very little about the AR, and have almost no experience with anything but gov't M16s and M4s.

So, when choosing components for my new build I asked a couple guys who DO know.

What I've picked up:
-Frankenguns (homebuilds) rarely make it through a 1-3 day class without failure.
-Most of the big-name brands are hit or miss.
-If you want 100% confidence in your weapon, utilize components from gov't contract companies (ie Colt, LMT).

There isn't a moving part on my [personal] gun that isn't made by a company that has a CAGE code.

I have an Ameetec lower and bought a parts kit for it, but it will be for a recreational shooter, NOT something for hard use.  I might even build it up and then sell it.  We'll see.

hey guys!
i was wondering, where is the best, and cheapest place to get a COLT AR15A4 styled rifle? im basically looking to b uild a rifle similar in looks to the M16A4 we use
i know i would need a knights M5 ras, but what about the base rifle? basically, a 20 inch full length flattop
im also considering making a similar weapon, but M4 styled... info on that would be great too
thanks

We stole the Eagle from the Air Force, the Anchor from the Navy, and the rope from the Army. On the 7th day, while God rested, we overran his perimeter and stole the Globe, and we\'ve been running the show ever since.

Not to be facetious, but the answer is "whereever you can find one."

Colt will cost you.

That being said, don't settle for less like Bushmaster or DPMS if you truly want a Colt.

well then, what would be something compareable? i can go for Armalite, maybe something else.
there used to be a website where you could build your own AR... but it disappeared a while ago when i was at boot camp
is there anything like that that you know of?
thanks again

StagArms or LMT from what I have seen, heard, and read. I however have no personal Experience with owning these two brands. However, I am currently putting together a Rock River Arms. It wont be a Franken gun except for the magpul grip, and stock. Its a Rock River Arms Lower, upper, and parts kit. There just was not a complete gun around. I Also wanted it to have a National Match trigger, and to be a midlengh upper. I am very impressed with LMT and that will become my third AR if I had the funds.

I know several people on here (myself included) have Ameetec AR-15's.  I would highly recommend them.  When you get into town, just drop by their shop or give them a call.  They can probably hook you up with what you are looking for.

Nevermind, I guess they reopened.

For awhile, they were very closed due to poor management.
