What's in a name?
« on: September 04, 2007, 02:12:53 PM »
At the Bushmaster event, Vince asked me who I was on the forum.  I told him.  He then asked what it meant, sea rescue, or what?  It is really quite complex.  You see, back in 1997 I was wasting my life away in a small town in Colorado.  I went skiing over a holiday weekend.  When I returned home I had a message from the Antarctic Fire Department requesting an interview.  Four weeks later I found myself on a C-130 Skier heading to McMurdo.   When I arrived, I was given an e-mail address.  Now before this time I was an AOL user, and I had one of those names like hunglikeahampster13, but now I was given a different user name.  It was searscr@mcmurdo.gov, or my last name and the first two letters of my first name.  Seeing that it made perfect since, I quickly adopted it for all my internet activities.

I do not know exactly why I am sharing this with everyone; maybe it will give others a chance to explain their forum name.

LOL, I suspected it was something like that.

Mine....  Gaming name I came up with 10+ years ago (used on and off, don't even remember where it came from just liked the sound of it) and have be using it ever since.  If you are looking for me online in a game, or xfire, or MSN, or email, etc that's how you find me.

Yeah, but we have a lot of new people then and I need a good laugh.  I figure an explanation of some of the newer member names should be good for one.

I honestly think some of the minors just see random objects laying around and use that as their board name.

Mine came as a result of playing Soldier of Fortune II online back in 2002. I was buddies with a guy by the name of "Danish", everytime I was on the opposing team, he'd kill before I even saw him. As a joke I changed my name to deathbydanish since that's what we'd see in the console anyway.

Mine was, of course, inspired by a video game character. Atrus is the starring character in the Myst trilogy. I chose it because I like to mess with people's heads, though I seldomly plan for the distant future. One of my new aliases (Atrusino) was given to me. The suffix Sino supposedly means peace in one of the oriental languages. A gamer on SWG used to call me that so I picked it up. I also recently started going by the alias Der Wolf (German, Lit. The Wolf). I was called 'the wolf' by a few folks in my scout troop for my ability to disapear in the forest.

I've gone by far to many alises online, but I'm stickin with Atrusino for any new subscriptions.

Drkknight and Kara
« Reply #6 on: November 28, 2007, 11:58:35 PM »
Back on my Introduce Yourself post i said there is long story behind my tags well here is the short version.

Drkknight = Playing a night game with some friends in a scenario where we had to keep a player alive i got "killed" 37 times Protecting him and my friends joked I was braver than any knight so it kinda came outta that.

Karanine = To Start with Karanine had no meaning just something i made up for a chat room but now it has a dual meaning that i have researched it
                   1. Kara means Friend 9 is not the number of completeness but its close. So Basically I will befriend all who will befriend me.
                   2. Kara is a Turkish prefix for Black or Death. Again 9 is not the complete number but its close so (on the Airsoft field I'm no psycho lol) I will be the death of all who get in my way or i will die in the process

So may be a bit long winded but those are my tags and the stories behind them

My nickname is cro, which has to do with an old Indian legend.  When i started getting into online communities, because of the movie “the crowâ€￾, there were a plethora of “crowâ€￾s and all sorts of variants. Thus the need for something different.
As a writer, i always admired E. A. Poe, for his capacity to blend beauty and the macabre.  i adopted the name “israfaelâ€￾ from the same titled poem by him.
In Heaven a spirit doth dwell
                  "Whose heart-strings are a lute";
                  None sing so wildly well
                  As the angel Israfael,
And the giddy stars (so legends tell),
Ceasing their hymns, attend the spell
                  Of his voice, all mute.
This had a number of correlations for me.  One is the fact that i am a writer and am quite good at it.  According to the Koran, israfael was the angel with the sweetest voice of all God’s creatures, and i love the irony in our political climate.  The fact that publicly, i am quite soft spoken, so when i do speak, everyone tends to listen.  As mythology goes, israfael was one of Lucifer’s highest lieutenants and as such, i’ll bring the proverbial hell.  Plus it’s fun to hear people try to say it.

Twitchy Konigkeit

I get the problem of no on saying it correctly, Konigkeit is German its pronounced (Cone-ich-kite) through a German accent on and you should get it. anyway i was originally Twitch, and someone had it. i got Twitch cause i use to do a twitch thing to get my long hair out of my face (before i enlisted obviously) Konigkeit means royalty it was my Name for German class in high school, and had a debate on which one to use. So i tried to use them both, thus Twitchy Konigkeit or Twitchy Royalty

My name first started as something I made up for my online MMORPG games character called Veomscrier. Some people liked it some people couldn't say it, and some people us to call me Venom crier...which is wrong. Then one day my girlfriends nephew called my Venom from spider man bcause I always ware black, so I used it because it was sorta like venomscrier without the crier...sounds stupid by yeah..lol and 21 is my lucky number.
