I have a question that I've been wondering about.  It has been posted on this site that the FPS limit for sniper rifles is 500.  However what I'd like to know is, is the FPS limit 500 with .2 grain or .3 grain round?  As many sniper rifles have an FPS over 500 but when you use a .3 grain round the FPS drops to 500 due to the weight differential.  Is this sat or does the rifle have to have a 500 FPS limit while using a .2 grain round?  Please let me know as this will determine which sniper rifle I purchase as to ensure I can put it to use in all competitions I attend.

.2, and regardless of the weight, the energy remains constant.

You can't use a heavier BB and then take that lower FPS as acceptable.

Yes, I know there's no way.

It's a misnomer to say 'a 500 FPS rifle', more apt would be a 'x.xx joule rifle' because the energy, measured in joules, is what yields the velocity of a projectile (energy x weight = velocity or something) depending on it's weight.

A rifle shooting 400 FPS with .2s will shoot 365 FPS or so with .25s.

Different FPS, same amount of energy.  And BBs are weighed in grams, not grains.

You need to measure your FPS with .20s.

The point is to limit the energy, the limit is set with .20s. When you use .30s the FPS will drop but the energy is the same. If you jack .30s to 500 FPS then you will be way above the energy limit.

You don't specifically have to use a .20g BB.. it says you can use a .25g BIO.

So if your gun shoots over 500 using .20g, are you disallowed to use that gun, even though you're allowed to use .25g?

I just posted a "quote and end quote" that is straight from the AA rules stating that a .25g is allowed to be used...
