I don't think anyone is going to be able to persuade you to not do this, but please, for the love of god do justice to the game of airsoft. The media is looking to shine a bad light on us, and no matter what you do Thursday they can put a negative spin on whatever you do.

My advice is to cancel completely, but otherwise make sure safety is followed to the letter. Don't forget a very detailed pre-game safety brief and make sure you leave any asshats at home.

I would also leave any minors out as well; regardless of how they may have handled themselves in the past.  That is just asking for trouble both for the sport and them personally.  You let 15, 16 year old kids on and their classmates see them on the news....    That is just asking for problems.

The media would have a field day with that.  Oh, they probably play Counter-Strike too.  Obviously they are trained killers just waiting to make their move.

I would never voluntarily take upon myself the responsibility of representing the airsoft community as a whole.  It is quite a difficult task due to some of the reasons mentioned above and much more. But if you must do so, do it knowingly and make us proud.

i say you do it as if you show that we as a community hold games in a safe place, away from the public. people will see that we are not just a bunch of punks running with replica rifles.

I agree with everyone else....please don't do it. I mean, does "Airsoft Safety" really sound like a news report for the general public? More like "Baby Killers in Training", but the liberal-biased media would NEVER lie to anyone (sarcasm). I appreciate your enthusiam for the sport and understand your wanting to share it with others....but it smells like a set-up.

DON'T DO IT    All the reports I've seen have portrayed airsoft as a bunch op punks running around. If you, do, BE CAREFUL

This one isn't bad, but sometimes exposure can still be a bad thing.

From what I hear, local media is also doing an interview/filming with the Marauders.

Plain and Simple:
-All news networks are businesses (extremely competitive businesses at that)
-Businesses are in their field first and foremost to MAKE MONEY
-To a network news business, THE STORY IS MONEY
-Therefore, they will portray the story in any way they can to get the most hype from their audience possible, no matter what, because that's what makes them money

Did you think they want to cover an airsoft story for the intent of safely educating their audience?  Do you think they care whether or not it gives airsoft a bad reputation?  Do you think the media is going to give a POSITIVE story on ANYTHING gun-related?

In my opinion: this may or may not hurt our sport, but it certainly is NOT going to help it.  If I were you, I'd decline the story, and refer them to someone who represents the sport professionally.

My two cents:
They WANT the story. What are they going to give to you, or to the community, in exchange for it?
You could check with some of the admins and players on utahairsoft.com and see how the news report affected them directly and indirectly.
Also you could get in writing beforehand, final cut on the report itself.  That way if they do spin it bad you could have some recourse.
And you could ask to meet with the reporter/investigator beforehand for coffee to get a sence of what they're after.

Don't do it the media is not interested in whether this is safe or not..That reporter has a specific agenda and it is probably not to promote airsoft!

I am just hoping that you guys have stepped it up in maturity and safety since Airsofter1, Long Trang and I attended one of your games.
