Shooting Spots in Tucson

I've been down here at the U of A for almost three years now and I've never gotten around to going shooting in Tucson.  Does anybody know of any permissible spots to shoot a few rounds off in the desert? I sorted through the Arizona Shooting website and found a few vague leads, but I figured I'd ask here because I'm more familiar with this community. I'm thinking about checking out the Pima County Shooting Range this weekend but eventually I'd like to find a desert spot where I can just fire a few magazines from the .40 without any hullabaloo.

Any suggestions?

Reddington Pass.
Just get on Tanque Verde like your driving to Mt. Lemmon but stay on it and drive east until it turns into dirt.
then around mile marker 6 or 7 you start seeing the shooting spots.
just look for all the shot up TV's and bowling pins laying around everywhere

Anywhere on BLM land, Avra Valley has a lot.  There is a spot a lot of us use, you can shoot out to 1000yrds, we have steel gongs that we leave out there and use ATV's to move from varying distances.

Thanks, that's the kind of thing I'm looking for. The tricky part is just finding those perfect spots on BLM Land. I'm just looking for a spot where I can hit some silhouettes at 20 feet or so with a decent backstop.  Avra Valley is a bit north, but I suppose being able to travel on the freeway ought to balance that out.

Sorry for the late reply, here's pictures of the area.  We are heading back out there this Sunday afternoon with some new 'gongs' to put up.  PM me if you are interested in coming.  As for directions, it's all off-road to get there, no names on the roads either.

All shots are from an elevated position, downwards into the valley.  It's easy to spot your targets and plink away on them

You can see a spinner target (can take a .308 no problem) that we left out.

from I-10 do you take the Avra Valley Rd. exit and drive west until you get to a certain road or something?

You drive along Avra Valley road ~10mi, then drive off-road for about 15minutes and you are there.  There isn't a name for the turn off, it's just one of many roads that leads into the desert.
