What gun to get?!
« on: February 28, 2008, 06:00:13 PM »
So, I'm still new tothe Airsoft, and still haven't gone to do some airsoft because I can't make up my mind on a GUN! I don't have much cash so buying good gun is a big deal for me. Yes I looked around the forums, and read alot of reviews.

I almost made up my mind and was going to buy a CA gun but after reading some post I heard that CA guns have been breaking alot. Now I don't know what to get once again! I need a gun around $200 that is good right out the box with out upgrading that will last me many games. Please give me some suggestions. :)

( I made this post even though this has been posted before because the other post were old, and I want suggestions of guns out right now. )

Go to Gearbox arisoft and look at the guns they have, talk to the guys down there, put your hands on them ( the guns not the guys ) that way you can make a better decision.  You have to get what works for you not what works for other people.

I have gone to Arizona Paintball Depot, and that is where I held some guns like the CA I was thinking of getting. I'm just worried about buying a gun and then not working. So I'm asking for what brand makes guns with the best chances of not breaking within a year.

That really depends on how you use the gun. If you skirmish with it a lot, like every weekend a month for 3-4 months, something is bound to break. If you just buy it to plink away in your backyard, it'll probably last longer.

Just remember airsoft is not cheap, the sooner you understand that, the better.

I know I am still considered a "noob" poster here, but I would recomend getting a gun from Echo 1 or Classic Army(CA). An important thing to remember is to pick a gun you like the look and feel of. A gun you buy because it fits you will be a hundred times more beneficial to you then simply buying the gun someone told you was a good gun. If its a CA or Echo 1, you know you are usually not going to get ripped off.
ALSO! Heres an obvious tip, Stores customer service is usually better then online help, usually, so if you find a store with good customer service it might be worth spending a few extra dollars in price for better service.
Hope this helps. Again its just my opinion. Hope I didn't preach to much. =-)

If I had a choice between CA and Echo 1 I'd take the CA why? Metal Body.  I play rough and tend to expect my guns to perform at the same level.  However I'm not sure either is particularly reliable at the current.  CA guns have hit a rough spot recently.  I dont know when they will get out if it but untill then i dont know if i'd really want another CA gun.

G&P followed by CA

I suggest you follow your instincts and go with what you really want, even if it's more expensive. You'll be happier and get a lot more life out of something thats not cheap.

CAs have metal bodies except for the new sports line.

Most of the CA M15s are good to go. I been hearing problems with some of the current guns like the SCAR. If you are looking for an M15 though dont worry about CA.

Thanks alot people :D! Very helpfull bunch.

Yes, I was looking at the M15 carbine CA. So the M15 carbines are still ok or are all CA guns doing bad right now? If Echo has a good life spand, and is a good out of the box M15 then I might get Echo if CA M15s aren't good at the time.

EDIT***

I think I'm getting an Echo 1 metal gun. I read some more reviews and heard that Echo's are easy to upgrade just in case I ever get around to upgrading, and last long without breaking as well as being as good or better then CA guns. Found a good review here:

most all m4's are going to be exactly the same ease of upgrade; they're all built on the same gearbox type

Whoops yeah, Meant to say CA..... Strange how that one works out.  Heh do you want me to list the problems I had to fix to get my CA M15A4 just to shoot?.... yeah =  thats 1 of 3 i've had to fix out of the box in the past 2-3 months.

If you are looking for upgradability than really you are left with only two M4's.  One that costs a rediculous amount (Systema PTW) and one that is definetly worth the price.  Now I await flame for saying this but the ICS M4 series IS the easiest to upgrade and right now I'd put higher than a CA.  It has issues, but so do CA M15's.  The main issue it seems is athestics, if you dont want to buy a G&P Delta ring and hand guards with yours than maybe it's not the gun for you but even with the crappy hand guards I was impressed with mine.  The features you get, are absolutely amazing.  You get a split gearbox so that you can change the spring out with the removal of 1 body pin and 6 screws.  really it's that easy.  You get a much nicer stock motor than the CA guns, and you get a spring release via the forward assist so that you dont have to get out an unjamming rod to unjam the gun, hit the spring release, drop the mag, shoot a shot and most of the time it clears.  And Trust me on this one.  They have fixed the issues that alot of people had with their internals and them not being reliable.  They ARE reliable and the fact that most of the people here in NE use ICS M4's when they bought their armalite is testiment to that.

CA is good, yeah, they are, but they arnt the top.  Frankly put if I was going to be changing springs on a game by game basis the ICS simply because it is really easy to do and the other features you get.  If I wanted a gun that was damn awesome from day one.  G&P all the way.

on the other hand you might be able to negotiate a better price if you take a "hands on" approach to buying your AEG.

Ahhhh these questions!!! Like all other "whats the best" or "what to get" threads, you end up with what you have above, personal input. Simply that. Nothing is wrong with any of these opinions. What you will get is a Fact or 2 with personal experience.

Whats the quickest gun to upgrade? Depends what you want to upgrade, there are other upgrades then "JUST the SPRINGS"!

Whats the most durable body? No one can answer that. "TRY with facts" None of this, "I play hard and roll, and I've never broke myAEG." Machine Steel body, ok. I personally use TMs, all plastic bodies. I throw(literally), roll and land on my AEGs (250 lbs.) So conclusion is, TM plastic bodies are the most durable.

Price/cost. Ok if you set a limit, then thats it, you set a limit. Do research and find what falls in your set price range. REMEMBER do not settle for any AEG/Brand, and do not over spend, just for some extra perk/s.

So my opinion, if you want it done right:

*Spend years learning how to and working on AEG/ airsoft guns in general.

*During those years buy as many quality used AEGs you can. (this way you you get a feel for each & helps you make a selection on your final choice)

*Upgrade/tweek all those AEGs you've been collecting, taking a few at a time out to games, switching to another after each break.

*After realizing they all do the same F***ing thing, you'll go with either two choices: 1) the AEG you personally "like" most, based on personal opinion. or 2) the AEG you have collected the most Accessories and magazines for (and, preformes well)

*After years you now reach the point where you can make a "somewhat" final decision, but you still dont have just one favorite AEG.

*From those year you learned enough so that you can make most any AEG (except ICS, for me) perform better, last longer, shoot further/harder, then most any other for very little cost.

*In the end, you end up with what you consider your best (or one of the best) performing AEGs you built for $100.

Go with a brand you hear on these boards TM, CA, Echo 1 or whatever else
We all know your just going to end up getting what you want, and not what someone tells you.

I would recommend a JG M4 S-System. That is what I recently acquired and I recommend it highly. The only thing that has been wrong has been the flashhider, which is about a centimeter crooked. But, for 140$ what can you complain about?

Current Guns:
JG M4 S-System
Crosman Stinger S32P
Crosman Stinger P226
Super 9 Tactical Rifle (It was free, I wouldn\'t buy this piece of shit)
