Another Newbie... with questions
« on: September 04, 2003, 05:37:24 PM »
Hi all,

I guess I'm a would be newbie for airsoft.  I used to play paintball several years ago, but I'd never heard of airsoft... until two weeks ago when I was in the Loax AsoBit City in Akihabara, Tokyo, (I found a pic of the place at the bottom of this page in case you are interested (http://www.airsoftplayers.com/recon/index.asp?ID=30).  As I got off the escalator, right in front of me was an M4 Colt Commando.  And along one wall was the biggest collection of fully automatic weaponry I'd ever seen... including at gun shows!  I mean, there were M60s, M3 grease guns, MP5SDs, Steyr Augs... just amazing stuff.

Well, aside from the fact that I know guns are illegal in Japan, it didn't take me long to figure out all that stuff was Airsoft, but it was still VERY cool.  Heck, they had Magnum 44's, and even potato masher grenades!
I grabbed a LayLax http://www.laylax.com/ catalog even though I can't read Japanese, just to see if I could buy some of this stuff back in the states.  I figured that airport security wouldn't let me take something that looks like a real MP5 on a commercial air flight, even in my checked bags... :)

Anyway, it didn't take very long of perusing LayLax.com before I realized I could not order from that site (if only because I can't read Japanese), so I started looking around the web... which brought me here... which is cool because I live in Chandler... :)

Anyway, I'm wanting to get a good gun, at least for target practice in the backyard, and maybe to play.  I was thinking about a G36C, since it just looks bada$$, if for no other reason, but what do you suggest?  Is there a particular kind of G36C that is best?  Also, are there any HK UMPs in Airsoft?  I haven't seen any...

What's a reasonable price for a G36C with everything you need to shoot it.  One store wanted like $395... and I seem to recall the prices in Japan being a good bit lower than that for most of the guns....

Also, I've read all the FAQs I could find, but I couldn't find some basic info.  For example, in paintball, if you get hit by a paintball it is pretty easy to tell.  This is important because I've seen people get hit and pretend they didn't.  However, the big splotch of paint is hard to hide.  With Airsoft I assume you are completely on the honor system?  I don't have a problem with that, but doesn't it cause arguements about whether or not somone hit someone else?

Anyway, thanks for any help.
