I love the NRA!!!
On topic:  I see that most kids are stupid, everyone does, but usually kids aren't dumb enough to take Dad's gun for a stroll through town (let alone disobey orders from a police officer).  I think that anybody who gets shot with a toy gun in their hand is a should be a nominee for the Darwin awards (read his philosophy and you'll see why).  I see no reason for these laws.

As well as alot of innocent people that just happened to make a firearm owner mad one day by calling him a bigfoot... Honestly humans are creatures of stupidity (admitedly) and habbit.  We have gotten so close to the mindset that if so and so says something about me I can practically take his ass to court over it and probably win for verbal assault (as stupid as it sounds)  Obviously thats an exageration but if people are willing to go to court because of something stupid like that, then obviously putting guns in the hands of those very people is a bad idea :)

Doc Hollywood has it to the T, Not much I can add to what he's already said!

unless said innocent person was armed as well.  and you assume that firearm laws are keeping people from murdering other people then?  Your situation is a MURDER case, not a firearms case.

I don't think there should be ANY firearms laws anyway, the stupid people would die out much faster that way.

And what the hell are you implying here?  That they would kill themselves?  Either way it's a murder/suicide whether accidental or intentional.  If you are implying they'd injur themselves I fail to see how that would make them die out much faster?  Maybe you should recheck your words and restate it because thats not what I got out of your statement.

My assumption is that firearms laws are keeping people who would not normally buy a gun and who have short fuses from buying guns and shooting someone.  It may not be true of all cases but the average joe worker that works in office number 588 on the fifth floor of an office building is not going to want to buy a gun that involves hopping through hoop after hoop after hoop to get to to kill someone that cut him off on the 101 but is more likely to go and buyone if there is no such "control"

True it's a murder case but a murder case involving a firearm which makes it a firearms case as well.

The point you should have made is that laws concerning firearms only turn people into victims because only people who refuse to follow laws are criminals (thus the definition of a criminal) and they are going to disobey the law anyways and the people who follow it are already at a disadvantage to Jon Criminal.

Tennessee lawmakers are considering a proposal by state Rep. John Deberry to make it a misdemeanor to intentionally display or expose "an imitation firearm in a public place in a threatening manner." Exceptions include justifiable self defense, lawful hunting, and displays such as a museum collection

The way they worded that sounds like it is ok to wave imitation firearms around as long as it is in self defense (with a toy?) lawful hunting (again, with a toy?) and museum collections.

They might mean hunting game with a 4.5mm gun (bb guns/pellet guns).  But as for self defense, you must be really disparate.

firearms laws only keep SOME people from killing people with firearms, and instead forces them to be more creative in their murdering.  Firearms laws do not in anyway prevent gun crime or violent crime of any sort, and a lack of firearms laws, like in Vermont, does not CAUSE an increase in gun crime.  The statement I made about stupid dying out faster was a joke, the statement I made about my belief that firearms laws are useless was not a joke but true.  I point to Washington D.C. as an example.

This is exactly what you said it was, an ASSUMPTION.  An assumption based on what evidence?

The fact that the murder rate isnt as high as it could be?  Honestly, think of it this way, make it hard for apotential criminal to become one and that instantly makes them less likely to become one.  That is human nature, if a car was incredibly hard to buy do you think people buy them?  Sure some people would, but not that many people.  Likewise if you gave them away free do you think more people will drive?  Yes... If you make it hard for a potential criminal to get a gun then he is less likely to use a gun in a crime... make it incredibly easy to get one and thats all they will want to do because it's faster to kill someone with than a knife, or a lead pipe for instance.  That and it can be "impersonal" in that they can do it from a range...

I'm not a gun control advocate but some gun control is necessary to retain a safe living environment for the the majority of people who dont use firearms.

I wouldnt say that is entirely true. Its not hard to get a gun. legally, or not. If somebody wants something, they will get it. Its called determination. Most criminals have determination to break the law, because they are too lazy to get something the legal way, like the rest of the population.

I hate stories like this, because before the "walmart" gun came out, it was kinda difficult to get an airsoft gun. This was the same time water pistols were made in bright colors, and clear. I dont know why the new thing is to get a real looking fake gun, but whichever numbnut pencil pusher thought of that should be stapled to a cactus.

“National Rifle Association spokesman Ashley Varner said anti-toy gun legislation is ‘silly’ because ‘it doesn't deal with issues of crime.’

‘It won't eradicate the human element of the crime,’ she said. ‘It doesn't target getting criminals off the street.’â€￾

I agree with Varner on this one.  Getting rid of Airsoft guns isn’t going to stop crime.  Adding laws that punish people who use toys to commit a crime seems reasonable, but the focus should be on the crime itself.  Threatening to injure an officer should be considered a crime regardless of the “weapon.â€￾  Additionally, I am curious why a child walking around with any kind pistol had to be killed to stop him.  The story does not suggest in it that the kid was hiding behind anything or even pointing his pistol at anyone.  That generally suggests a clear shot from a trained officer.  I understand being unable to save someone with damage to vital organs, but a single injury to an arm or leg would not usually kill someone (not something I would want obviously, but clearly survivable).  However, the child is still at fault for ignoring the officer’s orders, so I support the officer in his need to protect himself and others.

If I was so inclined, I could replace my gun collection completely for alot cheaper and a whole lot easier and faster if I decided to do it illegally.  Gun laws make it harder for law abiding people to purchase guns, but not criminals.

Given this, I'm a little confused how gun laws are protecting anybody but criminals.

True.  Why would a criminal bother to follow a gun law when the intention is to do whatever is easiest and yields the most profit?
