The CA Sportline
« on: June 14, 2008, 01:08:16 AM »
Honestly guys, any good?
I know APD sells them for 125.00 and I nearly shat a brick when I saw the price.
I asked if I could hold it, and the guy said sure, and I gotta tell you, it feels like an Echo1.
How are the internals on this?
Are they dumbed down too or is it just the externals?
I did a search and I couldn't find anything except someone selling one in the ads section.

Same as you. I went there last week and was shocked, then he told me they were plastic  :( . But I didnt get to hold one, so I wouldnt know. I DID ask him about the interiors and he said he wasn't sure but he though the interiors were the standard CA interiors.

Just the receiver is plastic, all of the internals are metal. They are NOT the standard Classic Army internals, they are unique to the Sportline Series. The gearbox and internals are much closer to Tokyo Marui than to the all metal Classic Army Proline Rifles. A partial list of differences:

- Sportline has plastic bushings, Proline uses metal
- Sportline has non-reinforced gearbox, unlike the Proline
- Sportline uses an aluminum cylinder and barrel, not brass
- Sportline has a plastic spring guide, not metal
- Sportline uses a newly-cut and designed mold, the Proline molds are over 5 years old now and beginning to cause minor tolerance issues (was told this by a CA representative on Thursday)

I have one that I've left stock as a back-up rifle, and it's been great. Shoots 350 out of the box, and is more than capable of competing with other rifles on the field. As always though, I'll throw in a tightbore barrel to round it out, but I'm not planning on any gearbox work for the time being. I doubt you'd be disappointed with the purchase, especially if you understand what you're getting.

I heard the Gears were Chinese knock offs with CA SL stamped into them. (Classic Army Sport Line)
But for 125.00 It sure would be nice for a starter gun.
Is it still a step above Echo1?

I own one,  it takes to upgrades well and is quite durable.  It is very accurate and I have not had immense problems with it that I have not caused.  Stock they are good.  I upgraded mine with a 110 spring, tight bore barrel, metal bushings, and a good shim job, (thanks Jared and Ron)  It is one of the most accurate AEG's that I own.  The only problems I have had have related to using a Systema motor.  The stock one is great though.  This is my opinion.

Should I order it guys?

http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.p ... ts_id=3716

Or does APD have the m15a4 version for 125.00 as well?
And is it possible to put an after market metal body on it later?

No...

You should go down to Gearbox in Tempe and buy it locally.  That way you get better service,  SAVE ON SHIPPING, and Support local business.

Well I'll go check it out anyways. It will be a good chance to meet nil8er and anyone else hanging out at the GearBox.

I'm still very new here and to airsofting but on my first visit to APD a couple weeks ago I held the Sportline Carbine and the Echo 1 Stag Arms Carbine and liked the look and feel of the Echo 1 better.  I bought the Echo 1 (the last one they had) and am VERY happy with it.  Something about the Sportline just felt too cheap, even compared to the Echo 1.  My next gun will most likely be a CA but not the Sportline, just wasn't impressed.

Just a newbie opinion, take it for what it's worth.

You should care about the internals more.
I've watched youtube videos of people taking apart the CA SL and I watched Echo1 Gearbox videos for comparison... and no, the CA SL is much better internally.
And I'm somewhat ashamed that you had the option for a CA and chose Echo1 over it...

Well if it was between the standard CA and the Echo 1, even being new I would have known enough to get the CA.  But being my first gun, I think it was a wise choice.  And I understand that it is about the internals but I just liked the feel and look of the Echo 1 better.  I haven't even done a battle yet and I am already planning on getting another gun soon, most likely an MP5, and I'm happy to let you know that I'm looking at the CA's, but not the Sportlines.  I can honestly say if I were to do it all over again I'd make the same choice and still might choose another Echo 1 over the CA based solely on the price.

Wait, why would he not be able to put a metal body on later? Are they different from all the other armalites that much? Because you can put an metal body on anything else....
