OK my write-ups are not very good but I have had a few requests for what I have done. So here is my project so far.
The fore grip:
First off, when you get the kit it has 2 metal rings that have to be attached to the fore grip. This was accomplished with a dead blow hammer. It was quick easy and did not scar the metal. Needless to say I didn't know I was going to have to do so much to the metal. The "RING", that goes on the body side of hand guard, had the most modifications done. I had to cut off the smaller lip on it first. Sorry I don’t have pics. I wasn't going to document this. After doing that I realized that the internal part of the ring would need to go so I cut it out as well.
IT looks like this now:
I then took a look at what plastic would need to be removed from the barrel assembly and trimmed it and now I have this:
Take note of the barrel screw!!!!!!
Note the tabs at the back where the barrel mates to the body
I then took a sanding drum down the fore grip to widen it out enough to allow it to fit. At this point I had to modify the back of the fore grip to go around the “stiffening” tabs where the barrel and body meet. I didn’t want to shave them down and weaken the barrel.
I cut a notch in both sides of the grip. You can’t see it very well but it’s at the top side of the metal ring:
I now had to open the front metal piece a bit with a sanding ring. And I also chamfered the back of the sight assembly as seen on the first barrel pic above:
Now for that little barrel screw from the second barrel pic above. This little screw was an easy fix but it was the biggest pain in the @SS to figure out. I couldn’t get the front to push up correctly to the screw hole to finish mounting the grip. I filed this and that. I opened up the metal a little more but it just wouldn’t fit. I looked at it for about 30 min and then I realized it was that little screw hitting the wood and it wouldn’t let it push up.
I sanded a divot in the fore grip and it went on just like it was supposed to. I felt like an idiot at this point but the grip mounted and I was all good.
I need to get an H&K “back plate” Before I can mount the stock. But how to install a battery: There are 3 holes in the stock as pictured below:
I plan on using an M4 stock tube LIPO in this gun so I will probably have the front “single” hole drilled deeper so the battery will go back in the stock enough to mount it. I considered the back holes but I’m not sure there is enough room between the hole in the wood and the outside of the stock. Also the back plate has 2 kinda long screws holding it in and the front will only have 2 push pins. I think the pins will be a LOT faster and easier.
I will add updates as I get them completed. I can’t wait to have this project done. I don’t really like the length of the gun and I’m not sure I will ever even field it. I just like my other G3’s and I would like a decent collection.
