HK45C
« on: January 27, 2009, 05:19:27 AM »
So I've seen very limited reviews about the new HK45C which is going to be my present for making it back from this deployment.

I also noticed on gunbroker.com that there went from being multiple pages of these handguns to maybe 6 for sale as of this morning. WTF?

Does anyone have any personal experience with one of these? Anyone actually own one? Thoughts? Opinions? I already have a Glock 22 and wanted something I could use as my CCW.

I've had the full size version for almost a year now and been an excellent gun for me. You can throw any kind of rounds you want into it (I buy reloads they sell at the range I go to quite frequently) and I've never had any problems with it ejecting shells or anything.
The compact version doesn't have the sexy "ergo grip" like the full-size has but it still has the interchangeable backstrap. The grip and the frame on the HK45C is basically the same as the P2000, another HK pistol I've owned that was very nice to shoot.
The only issue with the HK45 is finding a holster and getting tritium sights for it. HK came out with a plastic "SERPA" style holster for the full-size version but I don't think they made one for the compact. And I know the Blackhawk SERPA holster for the USP will fit the fullsize HK45 but I don't know what fits the C. Not too many people sell designated holsters for these guns yet. If you go into a gunstore and ask for one they'll just hand you one for a USP, a lot people haven't even heard of these pistols. I ended ordering a custom Mernickle leather holster that took 5 weeks to get made but it was well worth it.
And currently only Heinie makes night sights for these guns in their "Super 8" style which is a lot different than the three flat dots most sights have. Personally I'm waiting for Novak or Trijicon to come out with some before I install any on my gun but you might like that style of sight.
If you'd like more info there always www.hkpro.com which has TONS of info on that gun.
have a good one

I fingered one at SGC the other day, they're really cool. But for all it's worth, I'd go with the P30 over the .45. I had a USPC .45 and now a P2000. I'm liking the 9mm a LOT more than .45. But, that's personal preference. P30 and HK45 are both kickass.

Good luck finding a P30 to mess with if you thought about changing your mind. But there are plenty of HK45(c)'s.

yeah I really miss my P2000 9mm a lot... when the HK45 came out I got all excited and sold it to get one.
don't get me wrong I love my HK45 but I do miss buying inexpensive 9mm rounds and when it comes down to it I'd probably be carrying my P2000 a lot more than I do my HK45 just because of the size.
I plan on getting another 9mm again one of these days and if/when I do I'll probably get the P30.

For carry, there is nothing wrong with 9mm.

Whatever you get, shoot it alot and take care of it.  I shoot my carry gun AT LEAST weekly and clean/relube it after everytime, even if it's only a cursory wipedown.

I ended up selling my 2 post-deployment handguns (both of which had stellar reviews from reputable sources) and bought 2 that work well for me.    Buy it, use it, and form your own opinions from there because thats the only one that matters.

I had no problems with spending literally thousands on guns when I got home.

Guns hold their value.  The tits and beer you'll spend the rest of the money on, doesn't.

Good deal. I think I met a "pair of tits" I'll be staying with for a while, :P

The beer thing is fair game when I get back though. 21 in 19 days.

Thanks for the input guys.
