KJW/Tanaka M700
« on: May 12, 2009, 11:56:32 PM »
So, I've been contemplating whether I should get a Tanaka or KJW M700 instead of a UTG Mk96 or M324. I don't know if the extra money for the gas rifle is really worth it.....any remarks?

Well in my past experiences with the KJW M700, its accuracy always seemed a little....off, very inconsistant. I didnt have a good chonograph at the time so i cant say how much its FPS flucuated. Even still, lets just say you got the gas rifle to be nice and accurate, do you want to deal with the things that come with a gas rifle? Eventual magazine gas leakage, barrel fouling, different performance in different tempuratures? Not to metion the magazines cost a pretty penny and only hold 11 rounds...just my 2 cents.

The difference between the KJW and the Tanaka is like night and day.  The KJW is very inconsistent for a variety of reason, mostly quality.  Even with really good BB's (like SGM's) you will find 1 out of every 7 or so shots just shooting off randomly.

The Tanaka on the other hand is rather accurate even in stock form.  While the performance doesn't vary based on weather, I've used mine in below freezing temps and the gun still functioned adequately.

I've used the Tanaka M700 AICS in Prescott Mid-January and a team was using a Tanaka Kar98k.  While performance was significantly degraded over normal, like I said they were still usable.  If memory serves, they were chronoing mid to high 300's on propane vs the normal high 500's.

If you're Talking about Alex's Kar98 then that thing rocked up in Prescott during the winter. I remember his FPS went down but it was still accurate and ran without a hiccup all day.

I have a Tanaka M700 AICS and the part I like about it the most beside the build quality is the adjusablility of the velocity.
You can change gas to adjust the FPS. The newer ones have the adjustable bolts as well. Those are nice however mine
is a "pre-ban". Each have their advantages.

Old thread But I will revive it. I wouldn't get the Tanaka m40 or m700, having owned the m40a1..Parts are too hard to come by. The KJW sucks out of the box. but put about 200-300$ and a few hours of time into it, and it kicks ass..it really just needs a new tightbore, hop up bucking, and a few tiny parts.

I have purchased a KJW M700 and have started tweaking and tuning it. This is not a gun for someone who wants to pull it out of the box and start shooting..

I will start another thread when i finish my HPA system.
