Idea for a game
« on: September 29, 2009, 10:52:31 PM »
I was sitting at the computer screen and thinking when an idea popped into my head for a game.
I was thinking two or three squads of men(even numbers) against eachother.
When you get hit you wrap an ace bandage around the area (provided its not a kill shot) and continue. Each man gets 3 bandages after they are all used the player is out. Say the me split up into pairs (example:sniper and spotter) the get a collected 6 to share. Just an idea. please post suggestions, comments, and imput or pm me whatever works.

-thanx

That seems like it would be fun, the problem is enforcing it.

sounds like a fun way to play. it would be cool if each squad had a medic and only he/she was allowed to wrap the bandages (medic could wrap his/her self), and the player that got shot would lay there and or crawl to cover (if in the open) and call over the medic. then once the bandage is on it would be like a respawn except you could just continue playing from where you were instead of a respawn point.

I say each person would get 2 or 3 revives (bandages) until the player is out (excluding kill shots).. but this would only work if you were playing a deathmatch match. If you are playing a spawn type of game you will get the same ammount of revives but when you get killed (use up the 3 bandages) you just go to the respawn point at your end of the field.

it would also be cool to have the option of killing a downed man (imagine if you hit them in the leg and they were waiting for the medic, you would walk up and give them a kill shot or exicute them in some way) Ex-chest shot, knife wound, curb stomp  but you can not just sit at your position and light the person up until they are comfirmed dead. This would be especially usefull in an objective match (say you hit someone in your base/near an objective) you would just execute them to send them back to their respawn.

enforcing the bands wont be a problem so long as you provide the bands. if you cant provide enough the give a limited amount to a medic to patch people up with and set a place for a field hospital where people can turn there bands back in so the medic can replenish his supply, continuing to patch people up.

that's what they do on that Special Ops Mission show- unless it's a center mass or head shot they are allowed to bandage a limb and then resume. it's a really cool idea but on the other hand if someone gets nailed 7 times in the leg how can you justify how many times they actually got hit there's no way you can medic something like that lol. it's no worse than any cheater would do today i suppose and it adds more realism to game play. there have been a couple of game in the past that utilize a white "hit rag" that has to be tied around a limb in order for them to return to play, if ace bandages aren't to expensive it'd be cool

if a medic only has a limited supply of bandages then every one as a whole can only get shot a few times...

There have been many versions of this idea used extensively in the past. Depending on the AO terrain, objectives and dynamics, the key is to ensure a good balance of respawns and down time for each "shot" player.  Otherwise if you have respawns that are too quick and or too many respawns then the game becomes stale rather quickly as the game dynamic no longer supports nor rewards the efforts of tactics and teamwork but rather supports an on going, never ending, shooting match. On the flipside if you don't allow for enough respawns and too long of down times for the dead players, the game may be won quicker than you may have anticipated.  In short you need to give some respawns and or down times to simulate a larger force and reinforcing elements who are just arriving on scene. Unless that is, short and quick timed missions is your goal.

While using airsoft as a training tool, the Marines used a detailed rule like this during some of their training evolutions.  I'd like to share what they utilized.

Quote from: "MSG Teeuwen"
-Wounded/regen:
-Each person carries a red wound rag and a white (rag) to act as a field dressing.
-If a player is shot, he must lie in place with both rags out until a friendly player can reach him and apply “first aid”.
-Obviously, if a player is shot, he pulls out both rags- red to signify wounded, and white so a buddy wrap a field dressing on.  Once the first aid is applied, the red rag can be put away, until shot a second time.
-A wounded player can be “dragged” into safety, then the other player can apply first aid.
-The other player must spend the time to tie a "bandage" around the wounded player's arm (all the while not getting shot himself).
-After tying on a “bandage”, the wounded player is respawned and can carry on as normal.  Even though respawned, keep the bandage on until shot again (at which time follow the rule listed a few sentences below).
-If no one can reach the wounded player, he must lie there until he is bandaged by friendly players or until 5 full minutes have elapsed.
-At the end of 5 minutes of waiting, go to the Platoon Regen point, then you may reenter play.
-If a player is wearing a bandage and is shot a second time, then he must lie in place for a minimum of 5 minutes, then go to the Platoon Regen point.

Depending on the game dynamics you can also limit how many times a person can regen from the regen point.
