AGM and CYMA are GONE!!!
« on: October 15, 2009, 10:05:32 AM »
Just found this on Airsoft News

"China: AGM and Cyma news ...bad news. Apparently, both AGM and CYMA's owners has been arrested and factories dismantled. They are being prosecuted for illegal guns manufacture in accordance to PRC's laws.

That's it folks. That is why no new products from China lately. News confirmed, as we received almost verbatim message from three different and highly reputable sources."

Shit....... I saw this coming back when cyma's m14 stuff vanished from the market, and all we were told was "factory raid" But i never imagined that it would come to this.....  :(  Hope someone else comes in and takes over there production. Or maybe they should just legalize building airsoft rifles. CYMA was making a shit tone of money.

It is illegal to make Airsoft guns in China. This is no secret and these men know this. The law is not new and has been around since before this whole Chinese gun explosion. They may get jail time or get off completely if they pay the right people.

For the past little while China has been going through its Anniversary of Communism. So all the factories were closed anyway and lately China has been cracking down hard on crime/illegal manufacturing. This has been aided by recent sanctions from the US for quality control after lead in toys, splitting tires and dry wall issues. You can't blame them for trying to clean up their act.

China isn't a bad country. The government just sucks and because of this people with money could do what they want as they had done all throughout Chinese history. You'd be surprised how heavy our influence on their culture is.

The only "bad" thing will be less clones if the owners get too scared to reopen. The only cheap guns will be Taiwanese so the return of "expensive" guns is possible. I don't think many of the people here would honestly mind that though.

I need to read what I wrote.....

As long as JG keeps going, I will remain content. However, CYMA did challenge the price celling, which was nice.

I, for one, welcome our new overlords.

Inexpensive airsoft is accessible airsoft.

Accessible airsoft has taken us where we are today.

That is to say, a time that pales in comparison to the heydays of yesteryear, when airsoft was expensive and you really only had the true believers.

I respectfully disagree with this elitist thinking.  Were it not for an affordable solution, airsoft would not have been an option for me and several of my close friends who have had interest in playing.  One can only afford so much time and money when you have a wife, children, mortgage, car payments, credit card bills to care for.

Did it bring in a lot of kiddies?  Sure it did.  But it also made the sport accessible to those adults who simply could not afford to throw down $200-300+ on a starter gun while they live paycheck to paycheck.

I think you're mistaking realist thinking for elitist thinking.

I can tell you, 100% rooted in fact, that the Chinese manufacturers destroyed the airsoft market and community with their lower prices.

It made it possible for you to play, great, bully for you, but it also severely diminished the hobby for the people already participating.

It is not elitist but rather realist.

This game took a major nose dive after the clone explosion. Take this example with guitars;

I play a guitar however I don't play acoustic. Nothing wrong with it but I prefer heavy music with more emphasis on actually playing beyond power cords or slow melodies. I get to college to find every guy there "plays" guitar as well. So I ask them, "oh, then have have every played such and so song?". Come to find out every single one of the players had the same damn guitar, played the same damn shitty Green day song and only played when people watched so they sucked at it. And since Green day's songs tend to be so mind numbing easy they'd get the label of "guitarist" even though they are no such person.

Do you understand now? Before the game/skill was valued because it was rare. It took time and effort to buy a good gun or play even decent guitar. But then a bunch of shitty guns came out/shitty well known bands came to the forefront and littered the scene. So now the real players of both are forced to the back to watch their beloved sport/talent get mutilated by hacks.

Back when the AA games were smaller and the people knew each other a lot of the Bullshit didn't exist. Few of the active posters here actually know of the pre-clone days and I only caught the tail end of it. To this day I still remember my first AA game and using Mad Sarge's M4 at SWPB because of a lot of the drama and attitude didn't exist. Playing for fun is vastly different than playing for competition which has long since forgotten here.

AH! Vince beat me too it but I'll post this anyway.

Opening a sport to a larger audience allows teams to find and pick up talent that never would have been found in the first place.

However, by your thought process you should just keep the sport to yourselves.  Heaven forbid my (or anyone else's for that matter) entrance to the sport diminished your ability to play.

If this is the type of response common at airsoft events, you can keep it.  Otherwise, I would hope that a little bit of decency would permit the thought that everyone starts somewhere.  Pardon me if my post count isn't as high as yours, or if I didn't register in 2005 to prove my [strike]elite[/strike] real ability to play airsoft.

Paintball went thru the same thing decades ago.
When a hobby turns into a "sport", something gets lost in the transition.

Which I completely agree with.  But simply labeling any sort of newcomer to a sport/hobby... whatever you call it... as a "destroyer of your competitiveness" is asinine.
