But what your looking for is a:
STEYR AUG A3 SA USA in 223 and they are around 2.2k range

You might find a New American MSAR/Microtec AUG for Beween $1800-$2300 depending on the model. An STG-556 Sporting Model for about $1,800, and the new E4 model between $2200-$2,300+tax. But, whats nice about the E4 will take AR mags. Also it will soon be avalible in 223 REM, 7.62 x 39mm, 5.45 x 39mm, and 6.8 STC

Dont get an old steyer they cost to much, and they are not quite as nice as the new production guns. But, they are more collectable. I heard that there maybe a new line of Steyer's returning to America, but I dont know anything more about that.

I take it back the new Styer's are already here. In fact there is a dealer in tempe S & S Firearms to my understanding that stocks styer products.

I fired a single mag through the Microtech and was very impressed with it.  I actually liked it better than my friend's original AUG that I used to fire pretty regularly.  It just seemed more refined and the trigger was noticibly better.

I have never seen an AUG or an MSAR for under 1k. But if you want my opinion,the MSAR's is that they are really smooth, and fun to shoot. But the down sides are they can get pricey, and they are ammo picky.
