Abandoned horse track
« on: November 22, 2009, 10:34:36 PM »
A friend of mine went down to the abandoned horse racetrack off the I-10 outside of town to the west, Phoenix Trotting Park.  If you have ever driven out of Phoenix heading westbound you know what I'm talking about.  He was there for a student film shoot and had the permission of the property manager, who he says is a very amiable character.  This place could be a great place for a game.  Here's a link to a picture for reference:

http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/9222191.jpg

I've done some searches on AA and couldn't find any posts about it.  I'm sure people have thought of having games there before and I'm wondering what has prevented people from hosting them.  A movie was shot there in the 90's where they blew out every window in the joint with explosives.

My buddy says the property manager is a real cool guy and just might be open to an airsoft game, he did see tones of paint splatters everywhere from paintball.  The place is made entirely out of reinforced concrete and has been abandoned since 1966.  Structural engineers went in there a few years ago and reinforced some areas.

Have there been no games there because of the proximity to the I-10? City ordinances? Liability issues? Someone has talked to the property manager and he said no?  Am I an idiot for even bringing this up?

I'm curious and couldn't find any info about airsoft or paintball games in that building on the web or on AA.  I can get a in contact with the property manager and my buddy has 100's of pictures of the inside if anyone is interested.

Thanks for any responses.

Yes it is, according to my friend bird shit is a real problem deep in the building, but not so bad around the edges and the main betting/viewing areas are pretty clear.  The stadium part is fairly free of bird shit and there is plenty of cover for battles.

Ive been there for some UE  it actually doesnt smell too bad aslong as you stay away from the offices and  small confined areas.

a great place to play also  theres  nice big area with  junk everywhere for cover with a escalator in the center and the enterance  the elevator shaft is a big danger  fyi speed elevator scene  so its blown to hell.   the buildings been cleared of Asbestos

but it is policed by 5 different groups so it would be hard to play there

Is it? I have heard that that it still contains asbestos and has been structurally condmened but I have never heard anything absolute. I do know that some have tried to utilize the building for legitimate training purposes but for whatever reason, nothing ever fell through.

Try an 1hr plus.   ;)

I know all the bird crap could be an issue, can you imagine once that shit gets stirred up a bit.  Not a good thing to do with everything out there these days.  I don't think most people will spend $100+ for a decent full face respirator. But I imagine if you get documented permission from the property owner and notify the proper authorities of your planned activity, as nearby residents can be quite acute and easily frightened, then you might be fine.

No, just the property owner.

Airsoft is not illegal and the various agencies who police the area (really just MCSO) are there to serve us, not us them.

That being said, this will never happen. There is STILL asbestos, there is STILL virulent bird feces.

well there wasnt any signs up for asbestos post signs its  illegal  if there is asbestos in there.  there has to be signs up with warnings also the sh!t  was mainly in the stands and a small amount of the enterance.  there is still a vast area to play

no worries tho

It's private property.

There could be a tank full of AIDS and there is no obligation for the landowner to inform you.

You aren't supposed to be there to begin with.
