question for Marines.

I have been sworn into DEP last Wednesday and chose my primary MOS field that night (Artillery 0811) my recruiter Gunnery Sergeant Reedy said that if the artillery field (just cannoneer was in the slot) did not have any slots open by the time I finish and graduate from basic (I go 20100823) i qualify for M1A1 crewman, AAV crewmember, EFV crewman, and LAAD all with a requirement score of GT 90. however there was another slot for just the artillery field however it required a GT of 105, I scored a 104 so Gunny decided to see if I could get a 1 point waiver.

the question is If I graduate from basic and the 0811 slot is at max cap, do I chose the next qualified MOS like the M1A1 crewman?

Until you sign the contract when you ship its nothing but talk.  For any branch of service.

There are exactly 2 recruiters in the world that I trust and believe (and one in on this forum).

Doc okay so it's nothing I should think about until I go back to MEPS? because if the case is I can have a choice, i may choose the M1A1 crewman rather than wait for X amount of time until the next 0800 field slot opens.

If you do not have the guaranteed job field and end up open contract you get no choice in where you go. I've seen it first hand.

All the Marines on leatherneck are telling me the same thing, I'm going to ask my recruiter about tomorrow.

Talk to your Recruiter. You should have an MOS prior to you 2nd swear in.

update. my new recruiter SSGT. Davis told me that when I get there (I'm assuming MCRDSD) when they ask what i want, he says combat arms (since most of my choices are combat MOS fields) I'm looking into more combat MOS fields to narrow down my choices, well the ones I already qualify for anyway.

No offense but the recruiter is going to tell you what you want to hear. Like gizmo said (who is a Marine) get your MOS in writing before you ship to San Diego. They can't ship you if you don't sign the papers. They might get pissed at you but it's the next four years of your life. I personally got my first pick, but my brother-in-law picked aircraft rescue and firefighting and he ended up with avaition ordnance because the MOS was closed. If I were in your shoes I'd go for the open MOS. At least it's something you want to do and you won't get blindsided with an new MOS. And don't believe the BS they preach about lap moving after 2 years. I've seen it more than once where the command doesn't let the person change. It's not always up to you.

yea dont let a recruiter tell you what u will do pester them until you get the mos u want. they might stop acting like ur friend but ull be happy for the next four years of your life or five like me like he told me i was gonna be aviation ordance but i eneded up being a hilo mech i fix ch-53's now i mean i didnt really get screwed i just didnt end getting what i wanted but much like g1zmo i too am a marine so seriously make sure u get what u want i have seen people go from infantry to admin cause of their recruiter lied or screwed up something so work real hard for what u want and good luck to you at bootcamp its "fun"

I went to RS PV and instead of speaking with my recruiter, I spoke with the boss at the station SSGT. Phillips and I asked him to open up what jobs are open. he gave me a list of the MOS fields I qualify for, and I had him write down MP in writing. He faxed it over for approval and now I'm just waiting for the green light, and if it goes well. I can become a MP.

so field MP is the deployable version? I think the one that I chose is just the regular MP.
