Switching from paintball to airsoft
« on: December 29, 2009, 12:43:58 PM »
I'm moving to the Sierra vista area. where are places to play in the area? I've googled online and haven't found Any Websites or field locations besides this one . For paintball there was pbnation to Find fields.  Is there one for airsoft? If there are any team/clubs with up to date website please let me know. I have job, car, and money so I'm up for paintball or airsoft.

Tucson Airsoft Coalition - TAC
Marauder's Tactical Training - MTT

Your best bet for finding games is probably going to be on here or TAC.

well actually i am still doing both.  It's just that Paintball runs me about 80 bucks a pop to play and airsoft seems to be a lot cheaper. I've been scouring forums on types of guns to get so on and so forth, and im leaning towards one of those all metal guns. In general what is a good FPS that I should get if im going to get say a m16/m4/ak47 type rifle. is 350fps good?

well from what i hear paintball marker maintenence is a lot cheaper than their airsoft counter parts. Airsoft rifles can be tricky as they have intricate gear boxes. As far as fps different clubs/people have different rules if you have a fully automatic gun 450 would be considered a high fps alot of people allow snipers to have around 500 with restrictions on how far away you must be to shoot someone. Hope that helps!

just under 400fps is golden for AEGs for outdoors play if you're looking to max out and still be able to play at most fields.
just under 300fps if you want to play at ANY field, indoors or out.

FPS isn't the only factor, nor is it the largest factor, in a gun's performance. Once it's high enough to be felt by people at a decent distance (~300 for outdoors, or 250 for indoors), then it usually only increases the amount your gun breaks, and how much you hurt people.

FPS helps when:
People can see you firing, the higher the FPS, the less time they have to dodge the BB flying at their head.
You are shooting uphill or downhill at angles of over 10 degrees or so. (Hop-up is affected by significantly sloped shooting)

Honestly, you shouldn't be shopping for guns based on FPS, accuracy, reliability, and it's ability to accept upgrades and replacement parts are the key factors.

If you're looking for it to be as cheap to play while still being competitive, don't get guns that are shooting ridiculously hot, as these often require you to use heavier (more expensive) BB's to perform correctly. ~350 I think is a good balance for all-around playability. TAC and MTT both have a 420fps limit (MTT's is technically 375 with a .25, which equals 419.97fps with a .20), most AA games have a 400FPS limit for full auto, while some provisions are occasionally made for single-shot and semi-auto only guns to shoot hotter.

I have a 280fps AK74 that gets people out just as well as my 510fps SR16. FPS is NOT king. I just use the SR at fields that are extremely hilly and don't like for people to dodge the BBs since it's only semi-auto, I can't spray and pray. Gotta hit them the first time. lol.

In general, there is and always should be a huge difference between the style of airsoft and paintball.  If your reasons are purely for monetary value, you may not find what you are looking for but I hope that you do.

In regards to your question, 350fps with a 0.2gram bb is good velocity and meets most games regulations of 400fps max with a 0.2gram bb.   Don't get caught up in chasing numbers, you will never get it right on, just be below the max. If you haven't done so already I suggest reading up on this post.  viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5451
It is a bit outdated but it will give you a general basic understanding on a wide area of things.

Also, here is the coc, we don't enforce "bio" bb's unless otherwise stated by the organizer.  http://www.airsoftarizona.com/newbie_st ... irsoft.htm

I've been wanting to do the whole mil sim thing with paintball, but doesn't seem to be a lot. Airsoft seems to offer a lot of that. I'm looking forward to it

I always thought it was Airsoft costing more, Im always getting stuff fixed on my guns or upgrading them. Good choice though, I use to be a paintballer, havent regretted switching since I did. Enjoy man, and Tac is a good place.

in responce to your original question (where there is to play) according to the SV PD, we can play on any public/private (with permission) land that isn't full of houses. even the lots right by the city park and imagine charter are good.
