MBITR Antenna Relocation
« on: March 28, 2010, 08:21:10 PM »
Looking for some ideas. I know a few of you guys have done some 1m Whip antenna relocations. Post feedback, if its actually a functional antenna, have you gained or lost any reception? Real world operations experience would actually be helpful.

Also, What kit if any did you use?

Pics as well....

Thanks guys,
Andrew

Do you have an MBITR?
I run and Icom F4.  For one of them I run a remote antenna setup that I got from Tom at Red Dog Radio.  It cost $70, but I think its totally worth it.  It gets the antenna out of the way while being able to keep the radio handy (so you dont have to ask a buddy to grab it off your back when you need to change a channel or volume or turn it on...).

Pog, That is a nice setup, however..is that a TS replica?

There is also another decent replica made by Huang, but there are only a handful out there.

I think I am just going to use a Thales 1.2m blade antenna and fold it.

I think your frequency range will be way off with the Thales.
If you creative enough you can build your own foldable whip for pennies in comparison, with the correct range and using what ever connectors you want. That's what I'm planning on doing. That or something similar to TCI's MAST system.

A friend of mine has quite a bit of radio junk laying around his place, I'm sure I've told you about him. You just need a foldable antenna for an MBITR?

I don't really like TCI's MAST system because of the looks. I wanted to go for a folding blade look.

Scott, I have actually made one before, it's pretty easy and costs about 20 bucks..
